RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Update on German Shepherd: The lady who owned the German Shepherd cannot take her back as they are moving. The dog’s name is Diamond and she is a registered five year old GP. She tested negative for heart worms and has been treated for other worms this morning. This is her story as related to me today: In October the owner’s house was broken into and robbed. Diamond was taken at the same time and was missing until she showed up at the City Shelter, where I found her. Old Fella Rescue has now taken her in and Monday she will be ready to find a home.

"The dog had a Tatto in its ear and was chipped." Wow, it appears your city pound doesn't check for chips or they don't have a wand. Wonder how many pets have been put down that were chipped. Looks like you might have another project on your hands, getting readers for the local pounds. Did you save the pups, silly question, of course you did. We just need to hear it. All four of the pups are safe and being cared for. All four had mange and will have to be treated, a very expensive process that goes on for three months. One bottle of medicine will cost $70.00 and each pup will have to have a dose each day, anyone want to help out? I don't have any idea how long a bottle will last but I am sure they will go through several before its over.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Richard, once again you have rescued one of Gods creatures. How was Dr. Fords office able to ID the dog? Did they know the dog? Or was the dog chipped? This is the first time I've heard of you going to the pound. What made you do it and especially in time to save this dog. I think you have given us all a FANTASTIC Christmas story with this. In fact you have really made Christmas come true for this dog and the family that was missing their beloved pet. God Bless you for all that you do. You truely are the appointed Guardian Angel for Gods creatures in Waynsboro. Last night I received a call that four small puppies had been dropped off at the city pound and I knew they would not survive the weekend so I went to save the puppies, that is when I saw this magnificent looking Shepherd. At first I left the dog there until Monday, but couldn't stand the thoughts of her staying there any longer. I called the city to have her delivered to Dr. Ford and when she got there they recognized the dog. The dog had a Tatto in its ear and was chipped. We have no idea where she was for two months, but that is how long she had been missing. To my understanding she dissapeared from the people's back yard.

I was told I could post a Christmas story on a different thread that relates to the Holidays. I just need to figure out which one it is...

The German Shepherd was identified by Dr. Ford's office and the owner was notified, found out she had been missing for two months. Good news for a family that will have a great Christmas present tonight.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I just saw a drop dead gorgeous young female German Shepherd at the City dog pound that needs a home right away! I have put a hold on her so she won't be put down and I will have her moved Monday to the Vet's office for a check up then I need to find a forever home for her, anyone interested??? I won't be able to take picture until Monday, let me know... How old is she? Is she house-broken and/or crate-trained? Does she get along with other dogs? I don't know much about the dog except that she gets along with other animals. She is full of energy and loves attention...

Wow, that's pretty darn sad when you can't even mention Christmas here. I thought that was reserved for our government. Now I am totally loosing heart in basic foundation of who we are as a people. It's not that you can't mention Christmas on the forum, it just has to be in the correct thread....

Let me check with a moderator and see if it is okay to put a Christmas story on the forum. I got a notice one time that the stories were off subject so I haven't put anymore on.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. It’s raining here this morning, but it is not cold outside. The fur gang went out and took care of business and came back inside and ate breakfast. This morning I had a better handle on Hobo with Suzie's food by locking Suzie in her kennel crate and then when she was ready to come out I lock the crate door behind her leaving the uneaten food locked up so Suzie could go back and finish it later on. It’s suppose to rain here all day today with 2-3 inches and turning clear and cold by tomorrow. Last night as I lay in bed listening to the rain I thought about the nights Old Fella spent outside before coming to live with us. Then I thought about Suzie, Peaches, Hobo and Mama and of course Izzy having a nice warm dry place to sleep. The more I am around Mama the more I come to see what a sweet and gentle soul she is. Yesterday when I was ready to take the camper to the repair shop to see about the furnace she was waiting at the back door wanting to go along with me. When I got her doggie ramp that she uses to climb into the truck and she saw me coming with it she got so excited. If old bones and muscles could have turned a cartwheel she would have done it! Her story is not like Fella’s, in that she was never a stray, but I still feel sad for her that she lost her first love and home due to life’s ever changing chain of events. There are many dogs and cats that lose their homes because the owner can no longer take care of them for one reason or another. When I come across such animals locked up in shelters not understanding what has happened to them it is so sad. They can’t help themselves and because they are not young anymore they get looked over when folks come looking to adopt a pet. If you are looking to adopt anytime soon, please look at the older dogs and cats as they make wonderful companions and they will love you for the rest of their lives. Mama is so grateful for what she has and shows it every day. She always comes to me when I am sitting down and just lets me know she is near with that touch of her nose or that brush of her head against my arm. I am blessed by her acceptance of Sue and I along with the other fur gang by just knowing she deeply loves us and wants to please. When God made dogs he certainly gave a gift to mankind that magnifies compassion. Too bad the world can’t take lessons from such grace and unconditional love. It’s the Christmas season now, so let’s hope and pray that the true meaning of Christmas springs forth with such gentleness and love that the whole world is consumed in the spirit for which it was intended. “Peace on Earth and Good Will toward Men.” May you have a blessed day and hug your family and tell them how much you love them.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. Its a beautiful day here in the Deep South with clear skies and bright sunshine. It was 38* when I got up this morning, but it is warming up fast. Hobo pulled a sneaky this morning. I promise I wasn't ten steps behind her but she managed to eat Suzie's food faster than a vacuum cleaner can suck up dog hair. I fussed at her but she knew she had won the food wars for the morning and slipped off to her bed for a rest thanking the doggie angels for the extra food this morning. Of course Suzie had a long face when she discovered her food was gone, but I fussed at her for leaving it unattended. Anyway I put more food out for Suzie and made sure the food thief wasn't anywhere around. It looks as if our annual trip to Hunting Island will be in jeopardy this year. Most likely we will be in Greenville taking care of business for the new home in Piedmont, SC. I am looking forward to being close to the mountains and the grandchildren. The property is only five minutes from Intersdtate 85 and the 385 loop around Greenville which means we are only twenty minutes from the mountains and just minutes from being on the road in any direction. We will still have our home in Waynesboro spending time between the two places, most likely spending much of the winter months in Waynesboro where it isn't as cold, besides we couldn't leave Old Fella completely. What a story he has created and the legacy lives on as you look around the city and see reminders of him in many places. When you travel south you must come through Waynesboro to see the memorial at the city park and then visit the Library and see first hand his beautiful portrait that is on display with the Old Fella story next to it. For those of you who bought a brick or bricks, you must come and see what will be there for generations to come. Thank you for helping to build memories that will be cherished for a long time to come.

The walk is taking shape and is really going to look great. Today the eye doctor told me the eye had passed all of his expectations and in a few months I should have normal vision in the left eye. I hope all is well with everyone as we look to the Christmas season. Here is wishing you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS !!

Hmmmmmmm, wonder if I can convince Angie that our route home from Yuma needs to go through Waynesboro? Just tell her all roads lead to Waynesboro.

Work started this morning on the Memorial walk at the city park. It will be finished this week. So for those of you headed South for the winter be sure and stop by Waynesboro and see the statue and walkway.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving. Sue and I along with the fur gang had a great time at Camp Dixie. The nights were cold but the day time was nice. We lost our heat Friday afternoon so it was kind of cool inside the camper. The generator would only pull the electric heater in low heat so it had a hard time keeping up, but it was 65* inside the camper this morning so that wasn’t too bad compared to 32* outside. Monday we start on the walk leading to the Old Fella Memorial statue and most likely will be finished by Wednesday. What a great year this has been for the Old Fella organization and myself. Soon there will be a new RVer of the Year and I hope they will be as excited as I was at being named to such an honor. The Good Sam Club is really a great organization with a great staff to boot. I think Sue Bray is top of the line with a great personality to go along with it. I look forward to meeting the new winner and seeing the Good Sam people again in Louisville next summer. Okay I have to unload the truck and the camper so I will go for now and talk with you later.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. Well it is still very over cast here in the Deep South, but it is supposed to clear today and Thanksgiving Day is to be clear with lots of sunshine. Wednesday we are leaving for Camp Dixie with the fur gang to enjoy the day with Joshua our oldest grandchild. He is staying behind while his family goes to North Carolina to visit kin folks, so we will be able to keep an eye on him. He has his first job at Cracker Barrel Restaurant so he isn’t able to travel. I have been watching the Christmas stories on television and it sure gets you in the mood for the season. Mama, Hobo, Peaches, Suzie and Izzie haven’t gotten their Christmas list together yet, but I am sure it will be coming soon. Yesterday Hobo and Suzie spent s a lot time outside even though it was raining enjoying chasing the squirrels. Hobo just loves this cooler weather we have been having the last few days and wants to sit under the large Pecan tree waiting for a squirrel to drop out of it into her mouth. Honestly, she will sit for hours staring up into the branches of the tree just waiting for something to happen. Suzie will stay for a little while but soon loses interest and moves on to something else. Mama and Peaches are fair weather fur babies and don’t like the outside when it is wet and raining. They had rather curl up in their beds and sleep the day away. I have a lot of things to do today so I had better get started, talk with you later.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b251/Dixieflyer2/bella-beach.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b251/Dixieflyer2/bella-couch.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b251/Dixieflyer2/bella-kiss.jpg When we adopted her she was a little shy, but Bella (we kept the name) has been rapidly gaining confidence and has become an outgoing, playful puppy. It seems like she gained two inches in the first three days just by standing up straight! In the two weeks since then, Bella has gained six pounds, and gets longer every time you look at her. She is great around children and other dogs, and gets petted by all the children in the playground. Our daughter loves to run and play with her in the yard, and then sit with her on the couch and scratch behind Bella's ears. Bella is a great walker, and can make seven miles a day. She is also starting to show her lab heritage, as she loves water in all forms, whether splashing through a puddle or a stream, or romping on the beach. Thank you again for rescuing her and all the other dogs; hopefully seeing the wonderful dog Bella has become is some small reward. Sincerely, Eric, Stefanie and Leah
