RE: Generator debacle

Good point. But en contaire doesn't the ambiante temperature in the morning of 70 degrees caressing the genst also cool it down while its' exposed from most sides? Regardless, Do you have any idea what the cause of the shut-down might be? Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

Hi Kevin, Actually no, I took off the front/top/left and rear panel for inspection. And I did my tests with the covers off, (cautiously, of course). The finns seem very clean. Do you think it's definetely overheating, shutting down at +- 214 deg. F.? As for the clear hose: I measured the temperature of the hoses and since the fill hose is the same temperature as the therm/radiator and return hose I'm assuming there is adequate flow. But I could be wrong. Thomas

Generator Jim and Kevin, Do you have any other suggestions at this point? Thank you, Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

I don't know why everybody calls it a "fan" belt, when this "turbine style" fan doesn't even have a belt. I DID however inspect the water pump belt in the back and it is NOT shiny and sits firm on the pulleys with it's top a tad over the pulley rims. Is that good or bad??? Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

I'll check on that tomorrow,(although the service guys said the belt checked out ok).I gotta locate the water pump and belt first. :-} Does the fan run from the moment the genset is turned on or just after a certain temp? (mine runs from the start). Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

Hello Kevin, I did every step exactly the way you said and everything checked out as you described. Code 33 remains... The unit shut down under load at 210-216 deg F. at the radiator and sender housing. What now, should I hand it over to the professionals? Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

Fan belt...hmmm, could be. Although they said they checked that. I ran the gen yesterday with the inverter switch off, (even though the unit stays on for charging, only the remote panel is disabled),and no load. It ran for a good TWO HOURS:-)) But as soon as I put a load of (2) ACs to it it died within 20 min. Does that mean it can't handle the electr. load? (but then it would give me a different code, right? Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

Hello All, I finally got the rig back and still without generator. The model# is 7.5 HDKAJ11451H Spec: H serial# F 030512257. They replaced the temp sensor and thermostat, to no avail. Help please? Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

Uhmmm, quoi????? What inverter are they talking about then? Does the generator have a separate inverter to "invert" to 110V? I didn't pickup the rig afterall, so I don't have the model# yet. As soon as I do I post it. Thomas

RE: Generator debacle

Thanks for your quick answers. They apparently changed out the sensor AND thermostat and it's still doing it. I'll pick up the MH from them today and have a look myself. Maybe it will give me a different code after the (failed) repair. I'll run it without load and the inverter turned off, maybe that will tell me something. Thomas

Generator debacle

Hello All, Sorry for the long post but I thought the more detail the better chances in finding the problem. I'm sure everyone is sick of generator problems by now but here it goes: I have a 7.5 quiet diesel Onan and for the last 6 months has been shutting down after 15-20 minutes. I read the codes and it shows "33" ( --- --- --- --- etc.)which according to the trouble shooting means overheating. I took the front cover off after discovering that the cooling hose from the radiator to the pressure cap is about 10" too long, (probably due to the fact that they thought one would want to pull it out from the compartment via the little lid). The problem with the excess hose is that when you push it back in it KINKS! So there is no way that the radiator is ever able to pull coolant from the overflow reservoir (or send it there for that matter). So, the first thing I did was check the fluid temp and it showed 120 deg. F before it shut down. So I shortened the hose, flushed the whole system, changed the oil and fuel filters and tried again. Still shuts down after 15 min. :M So I explain the whole situation -with symptoms and all- to my service guys and suggest to them that it HAS to be the temp sensor or similar. They redo the whole procedure, change the temp. sensor and turn it on; still shuts off. $ 350.- Onan says the generator needs to come out for further testing and I'm out of patients. Could it be in the fuel system, maybe the injectors? (But that would probably show on the codes). On the first-level Fault code it says: "Engine coolant or inverter heat sink temperature exceeded design limit". Could it be the inverter doing it, that thing DOES get hot in the basement. PLEASE help, Thomas

RE: Moose Wilson Road Campground Jackson, WY

Thank you, I'll reconsider. The main reason for my trip to Jackson is an installation. So i don't have much choice. I can probably bump it out a couple of weeks but that's it. Oh well, Thomas

RE: Moose Wilson Road Campground Jackson, WY

Thanks for your replies. Sorry it took so long but I had computer problems and a power out. I called the cg but haven't heard back yet. I hope they don't let him build the condos since I think Jackson NEEDS a cg. Thomas

Moose Wilson Road Campground Jackson, WY

Hello All, I,m planning a trip to Jackson, WY at the end of March and was wondering if anybody has anything good or bad to say about this campground. I saw some google reviews from 2006 and 07 and they looked REALLY bad. Ps: This used to be a KOA Thomas

RE: DVD's in bedroom TV????

Yes, updating the switchbox would be another way of making it work. No, my current box doesn't have any other inputs but coax. Thomas

Or...... I just throw the old TV out the window (conveniently located right next to it), replace it with a flower bouquet and enjoy the outdoors HeHeHeHe T'
