RE: Looking for Plug in Voltage meter/monitor

Consider getting additionally a SurgeGuard or similar device that automatically shuts down your power when the voltage is too low or spikes too high. They also check the power upon being plugged in for errors in wiring. These units can be obtained at Camping world or at RVUpgrades.com for somewhere around $200.00. We went to one of the se units several years ago after we had power problems caused by the power company screw ups in a RV site. The units work! Also they are cheap insurance in the $100+ per hour for repair!

RE: Microsoft - XP vs 7

I suggest that you first take the compatability check that waspreviously mentioned. You may need to replace some drivers for several pieces of hardware such as printers. Then check with the microsoft store. You can send them an email to find out if you are eligable for the upgrade price rather than a full price. Secondly, there is at least one program available from 3rd parties that will help you upgrade to Win 7 from XP. I believe that you will find that Win 7 is faster and is configured in a very different way than you are used to to find files and etc. Hope this helps

RE: wireless router

I agree with the comment about having a good firewall and antivirus on your computer. Personally I switched to Sunbelt software's products which allow for a free trial - if you are interested. Another thing to remember is that if the wireless in the park is an "open" network where you are not assigned a password to use you should be cautious about any banking and similar information you might disclose via the WIFI as it is easily monitored by bad guys.

RE: Your opinion on Windows 7 compared to XP

The computers now are available with a free upgrade from Vista and Win7 is due out next month for purchase. The experts seem to agree that the upgrade from Vista is easy. I have Vista and am a old user of XP. I think the upgrade to Vista and Win7 is not too bad. However, if you use Microsoft Office and upgrade to the newer version that is a different thing. They have "improved" it so much that it is hard to find the well known functions!

RE: Satellite TV and No Sticks and Bricks

Easy! We did just that when we were full timing. You can contact either or both of them directly or through a dealer (if you can find one that is intelligent)and inform them your desire. I assume that you will be moving around in the country so you will probably want to obtain a RV waiver (FCC requirement)To permit you getting Network broadcasts from either or both coasts. You will provide the form and a copy of your current RV registration. They will provide the tuner and can provide a dish for reception. You did not provide any information as to if you need a dish or have any experience with satellite viewing. There are several links on here to tell about aiming a dish and the pluses or negatives about permanent mounted dishes on the RV. Hope this helps!

RE: "smart" hdd failure notification... What now?

Your experience is a reminder to all to backup the hard disk periodically ALL the time. It is standard in the industry to understand that the hard disk will fail it is only a question of when. How often you back up depends on how important the data is that you have on the computer and how that impacts you to not have it! I backup to a external USB drive that has a backup program resident on the exteernal drive. I also back some of the very important data to a thumb drive in between total backups. I also suggest that if you have pictures that you want to preserve that you store them on a CD,DVD. Good luck on repair of your computer.

RE: Need help. Computer is locking up.

I hope that you are using a firewall and anti=virus program aand that they are regularly updated. Many ignore the update action and not only cause themselves problems but also can send the problems to others through email and etc.

RE: Thanks for Help with dead 12 volt outlet

Winnie does not use in-line fuses. I hope that you checked the fuses in the panel under the dash (lift up and look). Of course you can download the wiring diagram for your coach from Winnie on=line if that will further aid you.

RE: Does a Class A leak any less than a Class C?

When checking your leak, make sure that the clearance lights above the window are caulked tight. Water shows up in one place and the source of the leak can be totally adiferent location.

RE: RV Satillite Dish

We have used Dish for many years in the RV and at home. We submitted the RV waiver along with the required photocopy of our current registration as required to get the East/West coast networks feeds. You were even given bad/incomplete information about local feeds. If you have the RV waaiver on file and are in an area for a period f time and want local stations one only has to call in and change the local station feed to the area you are located. Upon returning home or at another locationm you can call in and change to that location for the local stations. Another way of getting local feeds is of course to use the crank up antenna most RVs have. You have gotten a good discussion on the use of tripods. We use roof mount and we are happy as we assure we are in a unobstructed location where we can view to the south for satellite use.

RE: Home Wireless Network ?

Presumably you have other working computers that can access the internet on your network. XP has a utility that allows you to add a unit to the network that allows you to load the correct data to a USB or disk and then you load it onto the troubled one (follow the directions from the program). That will allow you to have the correct settings for your network. Another solution might be, I assume that you are using a firewall on your computer that is not connecting. Make sure that the settings for the allowed programs and etc. is similar to the settings on your other computer/s. Hope any of this helps.

RE: Lost All My Web Addresses

Sorry! Now that you have had the sad experience, are you going to make any changes in your backup plan? As an old IT person I continually try to warn people that it is not if your disk will fail it is only when. I am only putting salt in your wound to bring the situation and a warning to others. I have had the failure and been very happy to have back up media to solve the problem.

RE: lights on the toad

Have you never thought about the probability of getting your toad hit when you come to a stop without the lights on the toad? How about making it easier for others to not hit you?

RE: Tire pressure

As many will tell you, get the weight of your RV as loaded for trip. Preferably weghing each of the 4 corners. Go to the web site for your tire manufacturer and find the recomended tire pressure for the weight on the axle (front or rear) that corresponds to the weights you are actually experiencing on that axle. I recommend faulting to the slightly higher pressure than recommended. If you can't get the weights on each corner- get the front axle and rear axle seperately. Scales for this purpose can be found at truck weighing locations such as truck stops.

RE: Bat wing for FM signal?

Why not use the antenna that is probably connected to your radio already? Most coaches have a AM/FM/CD or whatever in the dash already and are connected to a antenna. Are you asking about a seperate system?

Spell Check problem

When I use the spell check option when posting(clicking on the abc) after clicking on the correction, I am told that the "file could not be found and may have been moved"! Is there a way to fix this? I am not the most accurate typist or speller and I like to have my posts legible.

RE: Storage of Class A RV

You did not specify how long you are planning to store the coach. However, I msuggest that you use your levelors to take the loaad off of your tires. One raises the coach until the bulge at the bottom of the tires is reduced. There is a bit of controversy about this practise but, I am suggesting the use of the levelors after listening to the HWH representative several years ago and my personal experience. For longer periods of time, you might consider placing a moisture proof barrier under your tires and covering your tires from sun deterioration. Hope you have better luck in the future.

RE: MH distribution panel LCD

You are going to have to tell people what coach you have to get accurate answers. I think your panel is working properly without further info!

RE: Disk Cleanup.

Just a rminder, if you have that much on your computer! Back it up on some external media unless you don't mind losing it. Remember that the PC industry experts tell you - "it is not if the hard disk will fail it is only when"! for what it is worth, the estimates are around every three years average.
