Is it smoked or just whining?

RE: Headboard reading lamp

That is a common problem with Chevy/Workhorse chassis . . . or is it Ford?. . . No, wait, maybe it's....

Have you considered a trailer? Will fit both and be "backupable".

RE: 5er Dual Leg Motor Install Wiring Ques.

Not familiar with your type, but in general: Relays are a good idea. Dual mounted rockers of the MOM ON/OFF/MOM ON type should make nice, inexpensive triggers that can be operated with one finger. Marine suppliers have several options.

RE: Opinions for my Pace Arrow

During the cool season I made the decision to bump the advance from 10º base to 12º just for a test....What a nice difference tooling down the road. Vacuum gauge showed 16" to 19" on the flat & level @ 50 MPH, The old way with a 10º base advance on the same road showed 15" to 18" of manifold vacuum with the speed the same....JimHey, Jim! Been casually following along. Haven't thought his through all the way, and you know I'm an advocate of maximum advance, but could air density also have a contribution here?

RE: Air leakage from tires

Be careful with cheap air. I read recently that if the CO2 exceeds 350 ppm, the caps will melt in 5 - 7 years. It was in the paper - it MUST be true!

RE: 2 TT batteries in 2 different locations. Can it work?

Bucky, I understand that your looking to relocate, not add a battery. With your tongue weight issue, it sounds like a good idea if you properly support, mount, and ventilate, as others have suggested. The benefit could be 1½ - 2 times the battery's weight.

RE: New Batteries -- Need Opinion

Just a few thoughts: In this case, it may be about statistics and probabilities. You said, "I always understood that batteries wired in parallel inevitably end up fighting each other". They can and I have had bad batteries drag down parallelled good ones, but it's not inevitable, in my opinion. I'd weigh in all the factors you can think of such as cost, replacement availability, and the chances of one of the 2V batteries failing and rendering the other five in the series useless. Then again, they might just be bulletproof! Keep us posted.

RE: Windshield Crack

Yes, I sensed your concern for the integrity of cracked windshield glass. It is made of laminated safety glass and is no more likely to fall out or come crashing down than a new one. It has a layer of vinyl sandwiched between two sheets of glass so it will survive a significant impact. Yours is probably quite safe. Side and rear glass, however, is (usually) tempered glass. This hardened glass (7 - 10 times more blunt impact resistant) is what you see shattering into "rock salt" when it breaks.

RE: Portable/removable Stove Top

Have you checked Cabela's Cook StoveMy 3-burner Camp Chef Stove puts out 90,000 BTU. It comes with a removable griddle and you can get a BBQ grill for it, too. I run a high pressure hose off my main tank to a "tree". I've fitted a regulator onto one of its ports. The stove runs on low pressure but I still have high pressure there for lanterns, heaters, and other goodies. I set up tables on each side of it with a collapsible spring trash can under one of them. While you're on Cabela's site, check out the camp kitchens. If you don't want to use the stove's legs for some reason, I'm sure a mount of some sort could be rigged up easily.

RE: Air leakage from tires

Also as the temperature drops, and if you do not use nitrogen, tire pressure will drop. Nitrogen is not exempt from the laws of physics. Temperature will still have an effect.

Air can and does escape through the tire, as well.

Cheap bulbs? Is it only one brand or do all brands do it?

RE: Golden Age Pass changes (long)

Whoa, wait a minute. Let's back up a bit. Most Citizens receive two slaps to use their Parks. Seniors Citizens only get one slap. This seems fair enough, but now Seniors are being threatened with two slaps, and we don't like it. But I ask, why are we Citizens getting slapped for enjoying our own land in the first place?

RE: Wiring for driving and fog lights

I tapped my foglite relay's trigger wire off the parking lights by way of an illuminated switch. This way, I can use them with low beams or no beams in fog, with high beams on winding canyon roads to illuminate the road's edges, or in campgrounds alone to avoid flashing the natives (mine are properly adjusted). I also find that their low position helps to better reveal road texture, bumps, and holes in rough or primitive areas. Being tapped into the parking lights, I'm less likely to leave them on accidentally. My driving lights will be triggered off the hi beams. I favor the use of rear fogs in pea soup, but PLEASE shut them off when it opens up a bit.

RE: It's supposed to be down in the 20°'s

An off-the-wall question, Deen: how DID you make the little zero by your '20'? I use the Thunderbird e-mailer. When you use the write feature you can insert special characters. I keyin the special symbol and do a cut and paste. I Imagine You could do the same with any well-featured word processor.:B After a number is installed (20) just hold down your "ALT" key and punch in the numbers "167"............20º JimYeah, for °, I use ALT 0176. For ½ I use ALT 0189. There are hundreds more ASCII characters, as well.

RE: Is it my tires or CA HWY 60/10

You oughta try them on a rigid! :EA rigid is only for parading from bar to bar and parking out front. :) Nobody told me that before I rode it cross country on secondary roads and smaller. Well, maybe they did and I didn't listen. :C
