Has anyone used or know anything about a product that allows a second computer access the Internet feeding off the first computer that may be on an air card? The product is Windy31. It is found at www.synetusa.com. I would assume it will reduce speed since it would be working off the same access.

I haven't used one but it looks like it could be very handy. It's a wireless router, nothing new there. What makes it unique is that it plugs into the USB port of a computer that's got an internet connection and allows sharing that connection.

At $60 it's reasonably priced. I have a router that my aircard plugs directly into that I paid $140 for.

The router itself shouldn't slow things down but all the computers will be sharing the same connection so there's the potential for a slowdown if one or more computers download large files at the same time. Normal surfing shouldn't present a problem.

One drawback to this device is that one computer will be the "main" computer and will need to be powered on and connected to the internet before any other computers can access the net.

A couple of weeks ago, I read a review from an RVer HERE or here

I was seriously considering it for online game usage for DH's XBox 360. But XBox Live only works with certain routers.

Another drawback for us as FTer's, I could only locate them for purchase online. We asked out Techie FSIL if he had heard of them and he gave us a Linksys router for free.

I received my Windy31 and plugged it into a USB port and 5 minutes later it was installed on my laptop with no problems. I then inserted my Verizon PC5750 and within 2 minutes my wife's laptop was connected through my laptop to the internet.

There was no perceptible impact on my performance with her laptop connected. I will be using it for the next two weeks while traveling in California, but I am expecting it to work well based on my limited testing at home. I will be providing internet connection in a classroom setting for 10-15 students.

By the way, I ordered it on the internet on Monday from Folsom California and had it delivered via USPS on Wednesday. I spoke to customer support in New Jersey over the phone regarding shipping and found them to be very informative. I had no need to contact customer support for installation assistance.

I have two IBM Thinkpad laptops each running XP. I did not have to make any changes to any parameters in XP to complete installation or use. I love 'plug and play'

Question. Would this windy31 work if you have your main computer teethered to your cell phone?

With a USB WiFi adapter on laptop one this method will work without a router.
