so I am still trying to find the perfect recipe to compliment my nissan xterra- 5000 lb limit/ 500 Lb hitch limit...I really want the 218 but may be borderline in terms of weights..so then I started looking at the other jayco options..but some of the lighter campers have much higher hitch weights and would not be good either..which one of these do you think would fit my truck best??
218---uvw:3490 23' (discontinued model and the perfect floorplan
hitch:405 for me)
gvw:4500
226---uvw:3800 24'
hitch:345
gvw:4750
197---uvw:3310 20'
hitch:325
gvw:4350
165---uvw:2905 18'
hitch:470
gvw:3750

I also was looking at the 17c because I thought I would play it on the safe side with weight but the hitch weight on the 17c would not make that possible.
17c---uvw:2850
hitch:465
gvw:3500

I am under in all numbers but I know that once I add propane and batteries the hitch weight will go up and the same goes for the camper once gear is added..
so which one do you all think sounds like the best combo for the 07 xterrra 5000lb / 500 lb hitch

If you're limited to 500 lb. of tongue weight you need to be aware that brochure weights are ALWAYS with a completely empty trailer and will be nowhere NEAR what it will weigh when loaded. Safe way to figure your ACTUAL tongue weight is to take 15% of the trailers GVWR and assume it will weigh that much. Good luck / Skip

I also like the fact that the 218 has so many windows..and that huge window in the back that lets in so much light...Are there any other small tt with alot of windows/light coming in????

How many people will you have?

We looked at the 218 last year and ended up with the 199. We have 4 people and it works great for us. We got one with the bunk option.

The one downside is the small black tank but it works.

On the 218 I did not like where they mounted either the GW and BW tank, one of them was mounted below the trailer steal, did not look realy good, kinda looked like a after thought.

the reason I am not considering the 199 is that the shower in the 199 is the corner style opposed to the tub shoewer ..I do not fit in the corner showers..not functional..i need the tub

Our hitch is 500 weight carrying, but 770 weight distributed....does Nissan publish separate numbers?

We pull the 218 with a 4.0L/V6 Explorer; it does well on the flats, but we are holding off returning to destinations that involve driving through anything that looks like a mountain road (Myrtle Beach, Great Smoky Mountain National Forest) until we can upgrade our TV.

The are plenty of 218 pictures in the "Our Pictures" link in our signature.

We have a Ford Club Wagon with a towing capacity of 5500 lbs. We had a travel trailer that weighed 3800 lbs empty and it was a strain on the engine whenever we had any kind of incline. Unloaded vehicle weight is usually listed before the options are added (air, awning, even the spare tire, etc.) and not every unit is actually weighed. You'll want to see what the base unit is and then add up the options and the weight adds up quickly. You will be much happier with a unit that doesn't seem like you barely control it. Never listen to someone selling the unit(s). If we got another trailer I would stay under 3,000 unloaded vehicle weight plus options.
