I'm a member of GS and FMCA. I belong to one club from each.

Why do I like FMCA?

  • I look forward to their magazine every month.
  • A lot less junk mail than GS (in fact, I get very little snail mail from them)
  • Virtually no junk email compared to GS (I have had to opt out of almost all GS emails to achieve peace.)

I didn't really appreciate all the subtle, positive things FMCA offered, even when I was reading their literature about the membership benefits. I joined based on a number of folks telling me it was a good deal. I am happy I listened.

We've been in FMCA since we bought our coach in 2002. We like the largest chapter FCOC (Freightliner Chassis Owners Club) great rallies to learn about your coach's "skeleton".

FMCA rallies and conventions are cool if you like to attend the really big ones.

No, we've never found discounts at RV parks.

Yes, also like the magazine.

If you belong to FMCA and FCOC you get discounts at Freightliner service shops for maintenance. I think it's about 5%.

Overall -- if you like the huge rallies or some of thier chapters and will benefit from the maintenance discounts-- its worth the time. If not then I'd say the club isn't for you. We don't do rallies anymore (got burned out on them) but have gotten the discounts at the Gaffney plant for service.

You have all hit the high points, particularly Wolfe10. Through our FMCA club I have made the best friends of my lifetime. This is the most supportive, caring, wonderful group of people I have ever been associated with. I am proud to serve as their President for the second time. Without the FMCA structure and security, we could never have continued this wonderful club for over 20 years. www.komfortkruisers.com in SoCal.

I sort of understand the complaint with this fine but national organization. At Redmond, OR, with over 2000 MH's the rules were rather tightly enforced. You were given a space without option, generator rules were enforced. Pet rules were enforced. But gee whiz, there were over 2000 MH's all arriving within days of each other, and all leaving at the same time. Wow, what organization.
My complaint was that many local clubs came to the convention en-mass.
The dined together, drank together, socialized together...as might be expected. As a person new to the convention, even given a ribbon to denote my newness, I sort of felt left out. Again, this is probably just me.
But as a previous Scout leader (both boys and girls) I applaud the organization at the conventions and at the California regional convention I attended.
Perhaps I'll try a group thing again someday, but for now, I just enjoy the great outdoors with my group.
But I'm still and FMCA member, and enjoy the magazine.

I called Coach Net to get it again, I had missed a year. It was $109 basic. I said don't I get FMCA discount? paid $99.
MEDEX is free, I thought I would have to call them for helicopter. Hyder, Alaska population 8 .Thought hubby was having heart attack, no pain, sweating, gray skin, upset stomach. Thank God he passed a kidney stone before I called.
Medex is well worth the membership fee to FMCA. We have been to several rallies on day passes. Really enjoy talking to the Freightliner and CAT people.

What makes MEDEX so great? How is it better than regular health insurance?

MEDEX is an emergency evacuation and travel assistance company that is included with an FMCA membership. If you get hurt or sick on the road, Medex will pay the cost of an emergency medical evacuation. They'll pay to get your RV and toad back home if you can't drive. If you travel with kids or grandkids and they're strandid as a result of you being incapacitated, Medex buys them a plane ticket to get them back home. And if you kick the bucket, they'll fly your remains home or pay for the creamation and a jar to put you in. That happened at one of their Rallies. Guy dropped dead. MEDEX flew the poor fella back home and flew in his son to drive the rig home with his mother. If you're traveling alone and wind up in the hospital, they'll bring in a family member or friend to be with you. It's not health insurance. They will not pay the doctor or hospital bill.
G.S. sells it for $100 bucks a year to members. FMCA gives it with the membership. Sounds like a lot of people have used it. Hope I never need it. But good to know I have it.

Thanks for the answer.
