how does the water pump belt sit in the pulleys? does it sit down in the groove or is the top of the belt even with the outer edge of the pulleys?
are the sides of the belt shiny and slick or dull and just flat black?

I'll check on that tomorrow,(although the service guys said the belt checked out ok).I gotta locate the water pump and belt first. :-}
Does the fan run from the moment the genset is turned on or just after a certain temp? (mine runs from the start).

I don't know why everybody calls it a "fan" belt, when this "turbine style" fan doesn't even have a belt.
I DID however inspect the water pump belt in the back and it is NOT shiny and sits firm on the pulleys with it's top a tad over the pulley rims. Is that good or bad???

we have a clear hose with a tee in it that we use to replace the upper hose from the thermostat housing to the top of radiator then to the fill cap
we used it once and found one with a broken water pump shaft and can be used to verify that coolant is flowing through the radiator
the shaft had broken where the impeller pressed on the shaft
bought the hose and plastic tee at home depot

just 2 quick questions that the guy i work with asked when we talked about your genset
you do have all the pannels on when you run the genset?
you have made sure the radiator fins are clean at not full of dirt?

Hi Kevin,
Actually no, I took off the front/top/left and rear panel for inspection. And I did my tests with the covers off, (cautiously, of course). The finns seem very clean. Do you think it's definetely overheating, shutting down at +- 214 deg. F.?
As for the clear hose: I measured the temperature of the hoses and since the fill hose is the same temperature as the therm/radiator and return hose I'm assuming there is adequate flow. But I could be wrong.

if you have any cover off it will allow the air from the fan to go every where with no direction and overheat the genset.
you need all the covers on to direct the air flow in the bottom across the fins on the inverter across the radiator and past the engine around the hot muffler and out the air exhaust hole in the bottom
the temp of the return hose should be lower than the temp of the upper hose coming out of the thermostat housing being that they are the same the water pump must be circulating

Good point.
But en contaire doesn't the ambiante temperature in the morning of 70 degrees caressing the genst also cool it down while its' exposed from most sides?
Regardless, Do you have any idea what the cause of the shut-down might be?
