Does anyone know which type of refer draws the less amount of battery juice? I always thought cooling in the gas mode would draw less battery while boondocking vs operating off 12 volt mode?

12v mode wears the battery down quickly. In gas mode, which is what I use, the battery is just running the control board, and will not run down unless you use it for other things. As long as I have propane, the ref runs.
As an aside, if you know you're going out for a long trip, freeze a gallon of water and put it in the ref. Reduces the load on the unit, and after it melts, you have drinking water.

The refer needs a very small amount of DC to operate the controls. Without that it will not run at all. The propane mode takes much less power than the 12v mode to operate the cooling cycle.

12 volt is usually used ONLY for very small fridges and even THEN basically to MAINTAIN cold rather than create it. Different purposes involved in the two.

The 3way I had in my PUP had no 12 volt control. The cooling power was manual so in propane mode there was no battery required and no drain on the connected battery. Two way seem to all have an electronic control and need 12v to hold the propane valve open.
Propane mode will always have the least draw on battery. Of course plugged into power it does not matter.
