I have camped at campgrounds where the WiFi signal seems to come and go or be very weak. Is there some type of antenna I could mount on the outside of my fifth wheel and run a cable inside to boost this signal? I'm sure this question has been asked before but I know so little about this subject I don't know what topic to search.

Go towww.jefatech.comthey will fix you up. I got my gear from them. Since Wifi signal is a line of sight signal, meaning, if a motor home is in front of the source signal, it will be weak when you get it or not at all. I put my wifi antenna on my bat wing tv antenna, when I roll the antenna up, the wifi antenna is sticking up 2' higher. They have several solutions, I chose the "wifi repeater and amplifier kit $149.

A place to start is a USB wifi adapter and a 12' cable. You can hang it out a window or otherwise locate it to be closer to the signal.

I just bought a wifi booster from Hawkins Technology. It connects to the USB port on my Mac lap top. The booster itself is a small plastic satellite about 4" in diameter on a a plastic stand that can be tilted and turned to bring in the strongest wifi signal. It works well. Cost about $90.

Your bigger problem will probably be uploading from your computer to the access point. WiFi is a two way communication, you need to get your info to the access point just like the access point needs to get info to you. To test, go to www.speedtest.net. If your upload is less than about 25% of your download, your transmitter in your computer is causing the system to slow down or drop out. Remember, the closer an obstacle is to the transmitter, the greater the likelyhood it will block the signal, so moving your computer around in the RV may be enough to make it work.

I just bought an Alfa Network Wireless USB Adapter, model AWUS036H from Amazon.com for $36.00 and I'm thrilled with the unit. I could never get a signal from my home router through the concrete block walls of my house. Yesterday I tried at a distance from the house where the signal had to go through two walls, 200 feet, and through both walls of my motorhome. Got an excellent signal.

I use a wireless adapter with a built in directional antenna. It is on a 6 foot USB cord. The device does not have to be stuck out a window. It will operate inside the RV but it is best if it is pointed out a window. Like has been said before. Line of sight with few obstructions works best. The device is a Airlink AWLL3055 Wireless G Usb 2.0 Adapter with 10dbi High Gain Antenna, about $40 from Amazon. Model number AWLL3055
