Has anyone used Windows 7 long enough for a objective evaluation?

I've had it running on my work computer since Friday the 16th (of October). Installation was really smooth and all the drivers were automatically installed. I haven't had any problems with any programs not running correctly and the improvements over Vista are amazing. The new Aero is very nice and has some nice little features that really work well.

As a Mac person I am impressed with how well this OS works and feels. I did have to turn off a lot of default UAC settings to get rid of some of the Vista annoyances. The Windows Updates are still very annoying. There doesn't seem to be a good way to get it to download updates, tell you what updates are ready, and then install them when you have time. Instead you either get automatic installs at night, or nothing except for a little flag saying updates were downloaded and you need to shutdown to install them.

The upgrades on my desktop and notebook went smoothly. Haven't used my desktop enough to comment about W7 on it. My notebook does act differently than before, and not necessarily better. I have to reboot too often I think. Maybe if I had more than 2gb memory it would behave better. My notebook will not take more than that though. Still glad I made the upgrade.

I have been using it for a few months in the beta release and I think I am going back to XP. It takes time to get use to it and in the last 3 months I just haven't been able to like it so I figure I will switch it back one weekend. Now if you Like VISTA you will really like Windows 7 at least that’s my 2 cents.

My main complaint is there is no way to switch to the classic windows style at least I have not found out if you can.

I have been running Windows 7 for over 3 months and like it. Just installed the latest version tonight in about 1 hour including loading the drivers for 3 - HP printers, 1 - Canon Scanner, 1 Logitech Webcam. and 1 TV tuner card.

I have been using the Windows 7 RC for 4 months on a 5 year old Dell single core laptop. We never used this laptop as it was soooo slow and nothing worked right, blue tooth conflicted with the GPS, and many other problems, almost gave it away.Used it on a cross country trip this summer and it worked great. Windows 7 is great, like having a new computer. Highly recommend it.

I saw anything on that a while back and sure thought I saved it but can't find it now.

There is a little info HERE that might be interesting to you.

Walt Mossburg, computer columnist for the Wall Street Journal, says in his article a week or so ago that Windows 7 is the operating system Vista should have been, and is almost as good as Mac OS X now. He has said it seems to be stable and missing the headaches that drove most Vista users nuts.

Well, I can't comment on the long term stability and ease of use but the installation is sure a breeze. I dual boot two installations of XP: one is XP Home strictly for games, i.e. no anti-virus, minimal services running, etc. the other is XP Pro for every day usage. I installed Windows 7 about an hour ago and it was a no brainer, easiest install I've ever done and the quickest. I installed it on a partition I had created earlier on one of my hard drives and it took all of about 35 mimutes with no hitches, glitches, or hiccups. So now I'm triple booting: XP Home (games), XP Professional, and Windows 7.
