The event happened in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. There is no hunting in national parks.

What has hunting to do with carrying a handgun while hiking? I think I would take my chances with a judge if I shot a coyote or other large predator instead of being dead. Just my humble view of life!

Most of those 'experts' interviewed put forward the idea that the attacking coyotes had gotten used to humans, since they are not hunted by them.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.

Hi,

We live in the country. Last week about 5 p.m. (dreary rainy day) I looked out the window and saw 3 coyotes walking up our driveway which is about 10 feet from our back door. They looked up at me and continued walking, not running, down the path into the woods. We see coyote droppings frequently in our driveway. We always hear them at night but never in daytime. It really bothers me that they come this close to our house. We have plenty of deer and they sleep in our pasture and I guess the coyote have found an easy food supply. Scary.

wanda573 and others, please don't be offended but according to your Missouri game laws coyote is in season from May to March with no bag limit. Were I you, I would shoot a few and they would begin to avoid people. It would be better for their species to be less familiar with humans.

My $0.02 and please don't flame me. It's MY opinion and you our anyone else can approach the situation as you deem fit.

We had a pack of wolves attack our MH a few years ago. Well, not exactly attack. We went through an animal park in Idaho. They told us to take the spare tire cover off because the Wolves would eat them. They had a very expensive MH run through and the pack tore up a custom designed one that cost abotu $1500. The owners were not upset but wanted the remains back. When asked why the said what a great conversation piece it would be now.

When we drove through, the pack went to our sewer outlet area and began chewing whatever they could get their teeth into. Some small damage and great memories.

I have a Texas concealed handgun license, I am also an instructor. When it comes to protecting me and my family from all threats my philosophy is this: It's better to have a plan and never have a need to use it, than to not have a plan and desperately need one.

My plan includes actions I take to prevent the use of a weapon, using a weapon is always a last resort in my plan.

When carrying some sort of weapon, be sure you are legal in the state you are in. For instance, carrying a piece of rebar is considered an illegal (club) weapon in some states.

Absolutely, except that I would say it is the next to the last resort in my plan.

My Dad always said a good run is better than a poor stand BUT, at 66, even an attacking snail can out run me.

Amen to nalcon and BradW!!
