Hi, Our Maytags are 12 years old...we have had the extended warranty and it is running out. Several calls so the warranty has probably been worth the price BUT now we think we need something else.

What would you suggest? Whirlpool? Apparently Maytag has gone out of business; not that we would buy that brand again...

The washer tub fills at least 1/2 full on minimum (sp?) so we waste water. Spin doesn't really do it; apparently the transmission is variable???? Repair man said it was some bad years

We would probably have to redo the laundry room cabinets if we were to get front loaders....

Brenda is tired of scum on her sweats, etc., The least we spend the better We are 70 years old and trying to survive.

I really like my extra large capacity Whirlpool front loaders on the pedestal stands. No more back trouble since I've had the washer and dryer. You have to make sure you use He detergent and if you're not using the washer make sure you keep the door ajar and don't let wet clothes sit for long periods of time.

In my research, I never found a brand that was consistently reliable. We eventually settled on Kenmore and (so far) have not had any major problems. It seems most units, despite all the different brand names, are made by the same few companies.

So I say, go for the model that has the features you want, and get an extended warranty.

Lowe's or Home depot.
Whirlpool brands, come in many different names such as Kitchenaide.

You are 70, so why spend thousands on a set.
Just replace what is broke, get a new washer for $300, if it breaks, buy another in 10 years if needed.

Paid big bucks for my last Maytag piece of junk , replaced it with a $250 one from Home depot and I am very happy.

We have a Maytag washer and dryer. We bought them 26 years ago. The washer needs a new transmission..very expensive. The dryer runs fine.

They seem to sell things in sets now, we don't need a set.

I have heard that they truly don't make them like they used to and I believe that. I've also heard that most washers and dryers are the same made by just a couple of firms.

Maytag was bought out and the new ones aren't like the ones 1/4 of a century ago.

I don't know what to suggest, but as we need a washer, I will watch this thread with interest.

The cheapest you can find. None last any length of time anymore anyhow.....

If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.

If I went Kenmore I would probably pay $200.00 more for my washer and dryer. I went to Pacific Sales, maybe they have one in Arizona, but they will match the price and the warranty for extra years is fantastic. I don't think Sears is the same as they use to be. My son and his wife wanted a dishwasher and the price for delivery was unbelievable. They were talking about a permit to deliver the dishwasher. It would of cost them $300.00 more for the same dishwasher.

A family friend, who is an independant Service Tech., said stay with the simple knob twisting units. Those with a digital display control what the mechanical knobs do, says he makes a living changing out the digital displays and control boards. We needed a new dryer a few years ago and he suggested the Roper (Whirlpool Co.), lot cheaper than big name brands and basically same thing. I believe they had 3 sizes (capacity). We purchased ours at Lowes and no problems.

Like earlier post said, at our age,buy the cheap one, will probably outlast us. We still have an old Whirlpool washer bought in 1980, still going strong. Of course makes a difference if "doing" laundry for more than 2 people.

Stopped at Lowe's to use the restroom and walked through appliances....we have purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer.

I hope that there will be an improvement in the quality of the washing over our 9-year-old Maytag Atlantis washer. I don't know why we are getting the dryer

The machines are totally guaranteed for 5 years. We can keep the same repairman (ATS); he certainly knows the way to our house.

Wish us luck! Here is hoping for less water usage and no scummy sweats.

PS--the important part, after the 10% discount, we paid $1597 and cents for the pair.

Samsung 4,5 cubic ft. Steam and silver cycle. Quiet as a church mouse and very efficient. The clothes come out sparkingly clean. All sorts of choices for your laundry pleasure.Stainless of course and dont forget the pedestal.
