Anyone ever stay on the other side of Salton Sea? Was wondering about Bashford's Hot Mineral Spa and Fountain Of Youth RV parks. Can you ride from withing the park to outside riding areas? Can you hike and explore the hot water springs? Or anyone have any cool suggestions for that area. Would like to ride but would like to explore the cool springs and stuff.

We stay at the Koa just up the street from Bashfords, seems the sites are bigger. They are re-doing the pools and spas so make sure they are open. You can ride from all the parks, go north along the canal and you can explore all day, the bat caves, oasis's, washes, slot canyons, and lots of climbing. Go south along the canal and you end up at the Glamis dunes. We enjoy it there, but check the temperature as it can get hot. Once you set up camp there is no need to use your TV, you can ride for days. In fact if you have the gas and time you can ride all the way to the Colorado river.KOA

Plus two for the North Glamis KOA @ Niland. Stayed there last TG and NY and had a blast. We are going again this year for TG and already have our reservations made. What I like about it is you can ride right up to your campsite and nobody hassles you. We have done the ride from the KOA to Chiriaco Summit, and all the way to Glamis (Boardmanville) several times. It's mostly along the canal so it's pretty fun. They also have a decent resteraunt called Sassy's so if you don't feel like cooking it's not a bad place to grub. Maybe I'll see ya there.

I just ckecked out the web site. Really cool looking camp ground with OHV access. To camp at KOA's do you have to have a membership. Never camped at one but I am really interested in this one.

Naw no membership required. Just go on to their website and have your MasterCard ready. Or you can call them directly and they'll book it for you over the phone. They are pretty good folks.

Just made reservations for North Glamis KOA for New Years. I called them and talked to the owner. Really nice people. Very helpful with picking out a site. Sounds like a lot of great rides from camp. Anyone else going?

anitajeff now that you mentioned it. MDW and I are now considering after Christmas there. We normally do OW but this looks good and maybe a little closer. What days are you going for new years?

Thanks shooter for the reply. I may start checking out more KOA's now.

Macs Dad,
no problem, glad to help. In all honesty I believe that particular KOA (at North Glamis) is an acquired taste. What I mean by that is we used to camp and ATV with a rather large group of people. When we discovered the N. KOA, last year, we had a few of our friends drive out to check it out. It didn't seem to turn anyone else on and they continue to go to Ocotillo for TG. Biggest complaint was that there wasn't an area for their small kids to ride the ATV's around the camp area. I could understand where they were coming from, but, they wouldn't even give it a chance. I wasn't even sure if we were going to like it either. But, after staying there several times it's sort of becoming tradition for the TG holiday and New Years.

Glamis is just too damn busy, and dangerous this time of year. The only glitch with the North Glamis KOA is WHERE to ride. They boast on their website about all the great rides. But if you don't know how to get to those locations it's a moot point. They do have a couple maps that will help you on a few of the rides.

As it gets closer to your trip feel free to contact me and I can give you some tips on where to go. There are still a few of the rides we haven't been able to locate because I just don't know where or which direction to go. Thats part of the fun though. If you want something easy you can actually ride to Mammoth Wash, which is the tip of the Glamis dunes. However be advised that the ride is about 25 miles one way. That's where the name "North Glamis KOA" is a bit deceiving. They make it sound like Glamis is a hop skip and a jump from camp. It's not.

Anyhow, any qestions fel free to get hold of me. If you get out there for TG or NY we usually stay at the "Nob Hill" part and I have a red Ford F-350 dually with a 40' Raptor TH. Stop by and say hi.

We will be getting a GPS before our NY trip. Do you think that will help locate the rides a little more easily? Yeah, they make it sound the rides are easy to find. Did you try looking them up on Google Earth? We don't have any children (at least living at home)so a children's track isn't important to us. Are the pics on the website pretty accurate? The owner mentioned there were some mobile homes in the park. Sounds like there are some permanent residents. If so are they located in one section of the park or all over?
