I have a 2500 Chevy Duramax CC 4X4 and we are looking at a Big Horn 3670 RL with a pin weight of 2,065 and a GVWR of 16000 dry weight of 12,160. I have been to two dealers and they both claim that I can tow it safely. The pin weight is about the same as out Arctic Fox 33-5V we now have. The loaded weight of the Fox is 12,800. We have pulled this five through 25 states with no problem. The fiver has over 40,000 miles of towing. The only change in my truck is a pair or Timberlins and one size larger tires. I do plan when I get a new truck to go up to a one ton dually. We are planning a cross country trip next July with this rig.

You will exceed the trucks GVWR rating and quite probably the GCWR rating as well. However if you don't care about those ratings the truck will pull the 5th wheel. Safely is another question.

I have a 3670RL and tow with a F350 DRW. Once you add the extras like a generator and 2nd air conditioner (if you decide to) the pin weight is going to increase and may exceed your RAW. I wouldnt tow this rig for an extended period of time with a SRW.

The Pin Weight is a lot more than 2065#, more like 2400 to 2700#, and you will be exceeding the GVWR, GCWR, GAWR and most likely the wheel and tire ratings. The weight is not an issue for the duramax/allison but will exceed everything else. In my opinion, None of the 250/2500s are up to a 16,000# 5er.

Tom,
I have to agree, too much trailer for your 2500.
Have you gone to Horizon RV in LaGrange on US70?
Jessie carries Bristol Bay fivers and has some nice ones sitting there.
I know he is anxious to get rid of them. They are more in line for your 2500 and have similar floor plans as the Big Horn you are looking at. We bought our Sabre there and he gave us a great deal and is a nice guy to deal with.
We were just down in your neck of the woods last weekend at the KOA.
Nice place.
Good luck!

Way too much trailer for a 2500. You will be grossly ove the trucks GVWR and GAWR. You need to plan on a much smaller trailer of a much larger truck.

With a GVWR of 16000#, you will have a loaded pin weight closer to 3200#.

Just keep your Artic Fox, save your money, and you will have a trailer sized for your truck.

I have to agree...we have the sister unit to the 3670, a 3600RL. We fulltime, so we may be a bit heavier than the normal user, however, our pin weight is over 3,800 pounds. Keep in mind we do also have a generator and a stack W/D which definitely adds to the pin weight.

As you can see in our profile, we tow with a C4500...had a Dodge 1-ton dually and stopping was at times iffy....

Both of you dealers are absolutly correct..you can tow it. Safely and/or within ratings spec's of the truck is another story.

Just like dealers, anything for a sale. I know you can tow it, but as stated I would be concerned with your pin#. I bet you'll have 3500 when loaded. GCWR will be at least 3k over. I would keep it to short trips if any. You could also take your results back to the dealer and have them explain themselves.
