Workamping appeals to me if I can do it in an area that would give me an opportunity to really do some sightseeing and other touristy things. I also like to do metal detecting after researching an area extensively. Will workamping allow me the time to do activities like that?

If you pick the right job, and leave time, you should have no problem. Depending on you circumstances, you can work as many or as few hours as you choose.

just do good DD, before you accept the job.........I have seen and heard of Jobs that want you to spend the majority of your time dedicated to you campground or position.....some positions want you to do rounds before you leave on a day off and do them again when you get back.....then you only have 6 hours for your day off....and that might not be enough to take care of what you need to do and what you want to do.....just ask tons of questions and try to talk with workers who have experience at that spot....this forum is a great place to get in touch with those people....

happy trails/good luck

Best advice...ask lots of questions. Especially the "on-call thing". If being on call means after you leave work you are still required to stay in the park till the next morning...well you can not go anywhere so ask ask ask....

If you get the job description, duties, and days off up front you should have no problems enjoying the area. Most places that use couples work with them so that they have the same days off to have fun.

We have almost always had a work camping position where we work 3 days a week. Allowing plenty of time to do whatever we want. We have been doing this for 4 years and enjoy the freedom yet still have free camping and other perks.

Thanks for the info. Most of the positions seem to be for couples, but as I have recently become a single RV'er, I am looking for something I can do as a single person. I do have very good computer and electronic skills. Probably not a lot of need for the electronic side though.

My current gig is 5 days a week (part-time 24 hours per week). I am headed to another workamping job in a few weeks and the hours are 2 8 hour days and 1 4 hour day. I already know I will like the next job better because of the work schedule. Working 5 days a week; even part-time, has been feeling like a full time job all over again.

So ask. I did not so I have no complaints but the future looks brighter

Jimbo

PS I am doing the single workamping thing while my wife works full time in town. Because your doing it single style you might find that they will spread out your schedule more. Again the asking thing is the best. IN other words, they will cater to the couples first and slot you into other available hours. I have alot I could tell you so just send me a private message and I will explain further.
