we are visiting family near Phoenix (south of) for a couple of weeks, and are having a hard time finding any park that will rent to r.v.s with kids. Does anyone know of any that are family friendly?
The only KOA is in Apache Junction, far east side of the Phoenix area. It is a problem finding a resort that takes children. Most all the resorts are 55 and older, several will alow overnight visits by children, but only that, visits. We have stayed in most of the resorts in Mesa and none allowed children, except on special ocassions.
I googled rv resorts and called every park that didn't specify 55+ online. One asked how many kids (extra charge, you know, fine by us...) and when we answered, she blurted out that 'we can't do ELEVEN!!!' I'm thinking that she called KOA to warn them after I got off the phone with her, because KOA never did answer their phones when I tried to call a couple of different times!
We were getting desperate - thank goodness for state parks!
We tried Lost Dutchman state park; the rangers were really great, but every time we drove in, we got this creeped out feeling. Couldn't tell you what it was (maybe the guy taking pics of our kids...)? - we ended up moving to Picacho Peak State Park and love it. WAY out of the way, but the rangers are super nice, and we have electrical hookup though not water or septic. The camp host, who we camped next to, said that he'd happily give us a reference any time. The boys are having a great time blacklighting scorpions (which we don't have in MT). I am glad that we came here, but it is quite a drive to visit our relatives, and since we are really not used to the heat, we would have loved a park with a pool. (there is a close DQ! WooHoo!)
Oh well, just wish that there was someway that we could get a chance instead of people assuming that because we are a large family our kids will run wild or we are going to look like squatters...
