Window Condensation

It's in the 40's outside and the windows in the RV have alot of condensation inside the RV We have single payne windows. We have been using a radiant electric heater instead of the furnace to save on the propane, is this part of the problem?

RE: Generators

That is true but he will still need something to charge the batteries. In that case, I would go with a Honda 1000 for running refer and charging batteries. When not running the Genny switch back to propane.. Speaking of batteries, how many do you have? Two miniumum, four would be better.

RE: Generators

Honda inverter type generator would be my choice.. What kind of rig? What do you want to power? AC? If so, what size is your AC? A 3000 may not be able to run your 13.5k and probably will not run a 15k AC. If you just want to run your lights and charge your batteries you don't need a 3000 watt. You could go with a Honda 2000i and if you decide you need more you can go with a second 2000 Companion. Keep in mind a 3000i weighs 134lbs...

RE: Attaching etrack to floor

I would not trust lag bolts, if the Hog falls over on the Can Am it will get expensive. I used 1/4" carriage bolts with big fender washers on the bottom. I went every other hole just at the ends and then a bolt about every 6 to 8 inches. I ran three tracks. I have a 30WR and my water tanks were not in the way BUT it's a good idea to look before you drill.

RE: Has this happened to you?

I realize you have disabilities that caused you to park where you did, but the problem I have had with my RV is once I get into the pumps I can't get out because the beer and ciggerette buyers are parked every which way, so I sit till they come out.
Beside the point....you should not be eating roast beef, salt or mayo!

RE: Has this happened to you?

I can't believe that pissing in a bottle and dumping it on the ground or throwing it out the window is OK. I also heard the vans full of Undocumented Aliens do the same thing as they can't stop to let them go.
That said the roads would be a safer and a healthier place if they would pay truckers by the hour instead of by the mile. Then you would probably see truckers at rest areas and picking up trash and sprucing up the place, OR NOT!

RE: 2500HD Towing

I am pretty sure you will be way over or weigh over on two or three of the vehicles weight ratings. If you have not done it already you should weigh in when fully loaded for accurate weights. Adding air bags or extra springs will not raise your trucks tow rating but will give it a better ride.
Check the sticker on the door for weight ratings, weigh in and then see where you stand.
Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)
This is the vehicle's standard curb weight, plus an allowance for a standard amount of luggage, gas and passengers, as predicted by the manufacturer. Of course, your vehicle's actual weight will vary depending on how much luggage, gasoline, and passenger weight you have actually placed in the vehicle, so the GVW is an approximation.
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
This is the maximum safe actual weight of your vehicle. If you exceed this weight, the vehicle's engine, transmission, brakes, and so on will be stressed beyond their design limits.
Gross Combination Weight (GCW)
This is the actual weight of your vehicle (GVW) plus the actual total weight (not the tongue weight) of your trailer. This number must not be higher than your vehicle's GCWR.
Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR)
This is the maximum safe weight of your combined vehicle and trailer. This weight includes all people, luggage, and other material. If your combined towing setup exceeds this weight, your vehicle's engine, transmission, brakes, and so on will be stressed beyond their design limits.
Gross Axle Weight (GAW)
These numbers are the weights expected to be placed on your vehicle's front and rear wheels. The two numbers are likely to be different to account for engine weight and other factors.
Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR)
This is the maximum safe weight that can be placed on your front or rear wheels. The two numbers are likely to be different to account for engine weight and trailer tongue weight and luggage. If you exceed this weight rating on either the front or rear tires, you can create a dangerous driving situation or even damage your vehicle.

RE: IS any one listening???

I am happy with my TH and very happy with the price. Could there be improvmements..You bet... If I had ordered it instead of buying it off the lot I would have added some more features, definately a winter package...Wired for Satellite (I did it my self) Second AC was prewired lucked out there (I added it myself) TV in the garage (added it myself) Extra batteries (added it myself)
I really did not find anything wrong with my rig when it was new. After a couple thousand road miles the shower tweaked and caused a leak which was found right away and repaired under warranty. Dealer did a great job!
Quality control during construction could be better. When crawling in behind the cabinets it's amazing what you find in there, loose screws, sawdust, plywood cutouts, pieces of wire a old chicken salad sandwhich (ok kidding about that one).
I think the frame on the Work and Play is pretty stout. Mine sits pretty low but I have never scraped it or knocked the sewer pipe off. Don't think It would be good for going off road. Good factory Good Year tires. A walk on roof would be good. One piece aluminum roof is great for not leaking and longevity but not much good for walking on...

I would like to see manufactures offer complete solar systems with large battery banks...
Unfortunately they don't make the perfect RV. What is perfect for you may not be for me. I have to weigh cost vs amenities vs depreciation.

Where What When

I am curious, We have thought about full timing but never really planned for it. We have decided to relocate primarily for better weather. The house is almost sold. Now, an opportunity may present it's self for full timing. I was just wondeing where and what others have done for the first 6 months? Did you just head for warmer weather? Visit family and friends? Made it an extended vacation? I just don't see myself taking up residence at a RV Park without a reason for being there? We have a 36 foot Toy Hauler with Harley Davidson. Normally we spend 6 weeks in Wyoming and Montanna during the summer..

RE: Planning to Toy Haul Full Time - Looking for Advice

Buy design Toy Haulers are built heavier than a standard trailer. 10 years is a long time to predict or plan out a full time 10 year strategy.
The high end rigs are nice no doubt. But I think I would consider invstr55 suggestion. Get a mid level Toy Hauler. It will hold up for five years just fine as long as you don't take it rock crawling. Then in five years you can trade it in on a new one. Or who knows, you may be done with full timing by then.

RE: Dexter EZ-Lube Bearing Maintenance

Interesting that Dexter would go through all the trouble to design a system where the bearings can be lubed with a zerk fitting, give it a catchy name like "ez lube" and then tell you not to use it... Might as well have named it never lube?
A friend of mine wanted to grease his new rig with ez lube Dexter axles and was told by the dealer just to give each hub two or three pumps with a grease gun. I had just done mine so I know that this was not right. Per the Dexter instructions and fjrider has it right on. If the hubs have never been greased before it will take a lot more. Mine took 35 pumps with the grease gun, turning the wheel slowly and pumping slowly, before you start to see grease come out. If you have old grease in there you will see the old grease start to come out and then the new grease. It will be easier to see if you remove the dust covers.
Pulling your bearing each year for a repack! What if you only towed 500 miles? I pull mine and hand pack every 10k, until then I use the ez lube. Because I wanted to make sure after the 35 pumps with the grease gun, I pulled the wheels to check the seals and they were fine.
Here is a test we did

RE: Towing KZ MXT 312 w/half ton GMC???

Maybe If OP specified the year and make of truck and umbers inside the door sticker we would get a better Idea of what he is working with. Also, is this a rig you own already or are thinking about getting?

RE: Towing KZ MXT 312 w/half ton GMC???

He is on the edge. And I agree that that is a pretty big trailer to come in with such a light curb weight but they make plenty of half ton towable trailers...
