RE: Progressive Fulltimers Insurance catch

Every state is different. Every insurance company is licensed to do business on a state by state basis.
Progressive may be the same company (In many cases its actually a holding company) but they are NOT the same policies in every state. Some of you seem like you are not aware of that.
Residency is also figured out differently on a state by state basis. State residency and insurance claims getting denied for being in a place longer than X months are not the same thing.
Some states require that you get a drivers license and register your vehicles after 30 days in state. Many of us sit longer than that, in fact I'd wager most full timers do not travel on a week by week basis. So if you play the residency game keep that in mind should the tax man come knocking although that is very unlikely.

RE: Invisible value: how to spot it?

You have your budget that is half the game.
Now pick a handful of manufacturers. Tiffin, Newmar, Country Coach, Travel Supreme and maybe add a couple of the higher end ones like Foretravel.
Now take a look at what is avialable from each. Start with one thing and one thing only. The floor plan. Find the ones you like and get inside some units with similar floor plans. This is key.
Now once you narrow down the search a bit compare the models available. What are the parts you like from each manufacturer and dislikes. Start narrowing down the coaches until you have maybe 3 or so possibilities.
If you stick with a good builder you will be fine in any of the models you get into. Any of those companies build on a good chassis with a good engine and genny. They also build a good house inside the box. You are going to need repairs and upkeep on any MH you buy but the units above are considered slightly better than the others for a reason. They tend to build quality units.
I don't believe in "hidden value". Especially with motor homes, if you take the time to do some research you will find certain companies tend to build better products. Before you buy get a quality tech to go through the coach from back to front and do all your home work and you should be fine.

RE: Progressive Fulltimers Insurance catch

As an agent I can tell you that many companies have provisions like this. It is common in many areas that are popular snow bird destinations, especially Florida. It is in place because people would buy insurance in FL yet live in NJ for 8 months a year with very different PiP laws and insurance rates as a result were trying to beat the system.
I can tell you this, at this time Progressive Full time RV policies do not have restrictions in the state of Florida for residency or time in state. The Auto policies do have such restrictions.
Many health insurance companies have residency provisions on their policies. Med Supps are less of an issue since their outlay is typically far less but full insurance policies will tend to have these restrictions.
If you try and beat the system for the $$ savings you better know what you are buying and what the consequences are if you have a large claim.
Not many companies will deny your small windshield claim because you live out of state. They may start taking a closer look at things if your rig gets totaled or you kill someone in an accident.

RE: Newbie fueling question

Generally speaking you can fit just about anywhere. Remember those big trucks have to get in there to refuel the tanks only a short distance away. Just watch where you are pulling in for low over hangs and try to stay on the outside aisles to make exiting easier. Worse case you can always back out the way you came in.
We use truck stops because we are diesel and 60+ft long but in a pinch we've used smaller stations just fine.

RE: The Droid cometh!

What limits Android and games right now is the lack of on device storage. If you are rooted you can move apps to the SD card but that is for a small minority of us.
As for a platform, Android is outstanding. Especially on some of the modified devices like HTC Hero. Sense UI is amazing as is the multi touch capabilities mysteriously lacking in the Droid.
Driod is a nice device spec wise, no doubt. I'm waiting for the HTC Dragon or another snapdragon version to come out before I trade my hero in.

RE: Full timing at 45

There are some young ones out there, but not many. I'm 33 and my wife is 35 we are 1.5 years into full timing and love it. The youngest couple we have met are in their late 40's thus far.

RE: Pulling Heavy Trailer with 3/4 Ton Trucks

Honestly people don't care. So long as they feel that they can drive it safely (regardless if it really is safe or not) many will do it.
I've driven X way for Y number of years and never had a problem. Fill in the variables however you wish and there is someone that said it.

RE: Picking out Full Timers

There really aren't that many of us in comparison to how many people RV as a whole. The easiest way is to watch them come and go from a single base and you will tend to see the same people sticking around. Even then, in places like FL where its common for people to stick around for 6 months and return to a stick and brick up north its difficult to pick them out.
I'd guess full timers make up <5% of the RV population. In the end it really doesn't matter that much in your travels you will find some of us.

RE: HELP! Insurance claim may be denied

Generally claims can be denied for mis representation only if the company would not write the actual risk presented if they had known at the start. Its called material misrepresentation for a reason.
Now the question is this:
1. What state was the policy written in?
2. What state did the accident occur in?
3. Does the company write the full timer coverage in both states?
Because it COULD be material misrepresentation if you told them you only used the RV for 60 days or less a year in Florida but ended up living in Colorodo, California or any other place other than the state the policy was issued in. Especially if the coverage is not available in one or more states.
Full time policies often will not have these restrictions. Some do, though which is why YOU have to be careful.
The same thing can happen with healh insurance.

RE: NASCAR drivers - too many drunks?

Its common. Many of these people have more $$ than they know what to do with and little in the way of personal responsibility to control themselves.
This is also nothing new. People have been getting bombed and driving, doing drugs and in general looking for ways to go zooted since the start of time. Its just put on every tv station and news paper now and we have a much larger population.
I fully expect to see pot legalized and heavily taxed over the next 20 years or so to help fill our national budget gaps. Stuff like this is becoming less and less taboo, like it or not.

RE: Eager to try full time RVing

No one can take away your knowledge. You can always fall back on a degree and you should get one. At a minimum it is a simple measure of your ability to finish a task that you can quit at anytime. This is why many employers require you have one. In some fields they are absolutely necessary.
Is it necessary? Depends on what you want to do and what your back up plan is should it not work out.
I don't use my degree (self employed / semi retired) but I would do it all over again and finish school. Its a safety net that I may never need but is always there. Knowledge is power.

RE: 50amp service verses 30amp

Honestly you are better off avoiding everything discussed above and just find a 50 amp coach. Why screw around? Especially in AZ where you know it will be hot.
Used coaches are plentiful.

RE: Is your RV a toy?

Its all semantics. Its a toy and a home for us. Its also an investment in our soul or life / whatever you want to call it.
However you justify it in your head the damn thing is worthless in 15 years or so. Call it whatever you want until then :)

RE: What do you do with all your money??

Your best bet if you travel frequently to the states is to open a US bank account and keep some money here for when you travel. Access it with your debit card and problem solved.
If its a one time trip or rare trip then just bring travelers checks. Holding lots of cash is asking for trouble.
