RE: Anybody built their own convertible sofa/bed?

Hi- I am considering a similar project. I wonder if I can remove the upholstery- I have in mind to keep the frame, but always in the open position. I wonder if I can create a nice base- maybe plywood, then get a mattress. I don't want the sofa, would love a full-time bed. Is anything under tension in a jackknife sofa that I should know about in removing upholstery? Some upholstery is bolted in- don't want any surprises. Any help is appreciated-

RE: RV covers

Thanks for your reply- I think hauling ladders to the storage will be better-

RE: RV covers

Hi- Pretty sure I will get a cover. Despite my extensive roof repair last year, this winter I still seem to have had some water find it's way in... **Funny question, but can I drive a short distance (no freeway) with cover on? My storage is about 6 miles from home. The covering and uncovering would be easier at home with ladders available- If I have to, I can take ladders with me to cover at storage- Leaning toward the Tyvek- rain and moisture protection is most improtant for me.

RE: Ceiling repair

I have done a little searching and one option recommended is to sand off the rippled vinyl covering, then just cover the luan wood with another layer of sheet masonite. Does this sound good or bad? I have concern about dry rot in the luan wood, but the main thing I see at this point is the separation of the vinyl sheet from the wood. I don't just want to cover something that should be replaced, but that does seem like a much easier repair. I'm not keen on cutting into the panel. Might have to call in help if that is what seems indicated. Any help? I guess I could sand and remove vinyl to see condition of wood? thanks!!

RE: Ceiling repair

I have a similar repair to undertake. The ceiling panel section that needs to be replaced is rippled. It covers maybe 2feet by 6 feet. I have solved the exterior problem and have good roof maintenance in place. My worry is whether I am opening a can of worms- What if the ceiling framework is weak or has dry rot? I do have a way to treat dry rot, so maybe I shouldn't worry too much. Could I reinforce framework by sandwiching the wood instead of starting a replacement/rebuild? I suppose the answer is to just get started cutting and opening the section.... Any help? Much thanks-
