RE: Hybrid Beds (Foam Toppers)

We use a 2" (middle of the road quality) memory foam that we bought at Target. It is a little heavy, but we roll it up and keep it on the couch when in transit. We think the topper makes a huge difference in comfort!
How we do it:
1) mattress pad (not really necessary, but we have large dogs that like to get on the bed. We use it as protection for the mattress)
2) 2" memory foam
3) fitted sheet
4) sleeping bags (or just a sheet, depending on the outside temps)

RE: Battery Question

BTW has he updated the charging system converter?
I'm glad you asked about that, because I'm considering changing to dual 6V vs single 12V. WIll I need to change my onboard converter if I change to the dual 6s?

RE: Generator Load

My Yamaha 2400 will NOT run a Dometic 13.5. I've tried it on two separate units. No luck.

RE: Will the television run off of a 12V inverter?

Well, I can't seem to find the inverter I had (maybe I loaned - or even gave - it to someone and don't remember)... To clarify: My Genesis radio/CD/DVD player is already wired to run off the battery, and the tv does not have a 12v plug-in option.
From what I can tell, the tv should require less than 200w to power (please chime in if this is wrong). Any thoughts on what size inverter I should purchase? I'd prefer to go as small as possible since I'll need to mount it somewhere near the tv. But... I want to make sure I get one that will adequately and effectively suit my need. Suggestions on brands and size I should get?

RE: Will the television run off of a 12V inverter?

Thanks for all the replies! The challenge now is to find the darn thing! I can picture all of the places where I've seen it in the past, and so far nothing... Once I find it I'll run out to the camper and give it a try.

Will the television run off of a 12V inverter?

Will a 12V to 110 inverter power my television in the camper? (22" Konka) And will one RV (marine) battery power both the television and on-board DVD player long enough to watch a movie? We have a generator, but it would be nice to watch a movie without running it. I just realized that I have the inverter (but, it is packed away somewhere unknown at the moment), so I thought I'd ask here. I recognize that the obvious would be to take it to the trailer and see if it works, but unfortunately it is parked at a storage lot, so I figured I'd ask here first. Thanks!

RE: Generator advice

I have a Yamaha 2400 and it works well for running our television, coffee maker, microwave, etc. (and charging the batteries)... It will NOT however start and run our 13.5 AC. For our purposes, a 2000 geni would probably work fine, and the slightly smaller size/weight would be a bonus. If you need to have the ability to power your AC, I would look for more than a 2400 geni. I've read posts that indicate the Yamaha 2400 has the ability to start/run 13.5 ACs, but my experience is that it won't work. I've tried it on two separate camper's 13.5 ACs and it has not had enough power to start either one without tripping the breaker on the generator.

RE: Hybrid for rustic/primitive/boondocking sites?

We have a 233S and LOVE it! For a 25(ish)' trailer (closed), it gives a ton of interior space! We boondock most of the time, and have a Yamaha 2400 generator that provides all the power we need. The freshwater tank barely gets us through a long weekend, but we aren't incredibly conservative on our water use.
As far as off-roading? We go to boondock sites in the AZ mountains, but they are mostly accessible by forest service roads that are fairly well maintained. I don't know that I'd want to be dragging the trailer over very rough terrain. You might want to strongly consider the off-road designated pop-ups. They would probably fare better with what you describe as wanting to do.

RE: setting up a HTT

My wife and I were just talking about this today! She would be helpless if something happened to me while we were out with the camper. TIme for a lesson and practice.

I used simple green on mine just last weekend, and it did a fine job.
