RE: Might be forced to buy Diesel

You must be planning on a monster fiver. My best friends 38 ft 4 slide Montana grosses at 14500 lbs. Jeremiah
No, not looking at monster 5ers by any means. I am looking for something around 35' and most "non lightweight" 5ers are around 10K-11K dry. I am going by GVWR, not dry weight which puts most 5ers in this length range at between 12K-14K GVWR. That is right at the limit for most gas 1 ton trucks.
Burch
An F-350 with the 6.2 and 4.30 gears (or a used F-350 with the V10 and 4.11's) or a GMC 3500 with the 6.0 and 4.11's will tow that! For that matter, so will a Ram 2500 with the Hemi.

RE: 1T Pickup special rules and regulations?

OK, lemme get this straight: I can't take my 7000lb F-350 over that bridge...but a 35,000lb New Flyer or a 25,000lb school bus is A-OK? Either reroute the buses or fix the bleeping bridge!

RE: Funny Town Names?

Krumville, PA. Someone who lived in the area remarked upon seeing the sign, "It's a crummy little town." (At which point I laughed so hard I almost drove off the road.)

RE: Attacked in my sleep!!!!

According to my wife, she shook me to wake me up a few weeks ago. I sort of shifted position, and said, "No, I need the ninth floor...that's where the best banjo music is." I have absolutely no idea where THAT came from.

RE: Is this a can of worms?

GM sold what was essentially a heavy-half as a 2500 for a while...no idea why. Now, they go the opposite way: the 1500HD is essentially a downbadged 2500.

RE: 1T Pickup special rules and regulations?

Are you sure they have a 9,000 lb. weight restriction on an interstate highway? Maybe it's 90,000 lbs.
As always, thanks for the quick and informative replies.
No concerns about weigh stations.
I have a call into MNDot about a GVW restriction on a section of I35 through St. Paul (>9000lb trucks are prohibited, but buses and RVs are OK...not sure if this means I can't drive a 3500 p/u there or not). Otherwise it looks to me like I can drive this pretty much the way I drive my car (but much more comfortably :) ).
Thanks again!
Probably trying to minimize strain on an old bridge. There's a similar restriction for the same reason in Revere, MA...a railroad bridge on route 1A is limited to three tons. (Yet, 35,000lb MBTA buses use it...go figure!)

With the RV trailer hooked up, you're fine.
Empty, the cop would have to be looking REAL CLOSE to tell the difference between a 2500 (legal) and a 3500 SRW (illegal?). They'd probably let you slide even if they did notice.
I recall a set of "2500" badges are about $50 at the dealer!

RE: 1T Pickup special rules and regulations?

I wonder how many people in Kalifornia simply tow with smaller (less capable) trucks JUST to avoid the idiocy of the GVWR cutoff in that state?

RE: GMs new secret weapon......LOL

Hmmm!
A merger of equals? Is that why Daimler paid 36 billion for 92% of Chrysler on May 7th, 1998? Do your research Don!
A merger of equals? Is that why Cerberus paid 7.4 billion for 81% of Chrysler on May 14th, 2007 when Daimler finally had enough of the losses experienced while OWNING Chrysler? Do your research Don!
Merger of equals? Is that how a larger corporation named Fiat, of Italy, now owns the majority of the much smaller Chrysler it purchased on July 21st, 2011 from the US Government and why Sergio, the CEO of Fiat, calls the shots for Chrysler? Do your research Don!
I'll help you!
Google these:
Daimler buys Chrysler
then
Cerberus buys Chrysler
then
Fiat buys Chrysler
Should keep you entertained for hours and help you learn at the same time.
Are you sure you work for Chrysler Corp? If you said Allpar I'd understand the brainwashing.
Don, just trying to help you.
It's quite simple, really: Daimler bought, pillaged, and dumped Chrysler. Then MISmanaged it from a money machine to bankruptcy. It really is that simple...it was a cash-grab by Daimler.

RE: motor and transmission service recommendation maine/nh

Anything chassis-related, I know of two Ford TRUCK (as in: they service MDT's) dealers in MA: Gervais Ford in Ayer (Littleton Rd., right at the 2A/111/110 rotary, exit 31 off I-495) and Minuteman Ford Truck in Foxboro (Route 1 near Gillette Stadium, exit 9 off I-95). Both can align motorhomes.
There ARE others (especially in NH), I know of these for sure. Note: cheapest gas & supplies (especially adult beverages) will be in New Hampshire!

RE: New invention could benefit RVers.

Remember the 70s-80s and the OTR trucking industry? Most of the tractors were flat front/cab-over-engine design. Driver visibility, maneuverability, shorter tractor/longer trailer gave way to better fuel economy.
Absolutely nothing to do with it: cabovers were used because of max-length laws. When those were broomed, the long-nose tractors dominated. Note that a "classic" tractor (Pete 379, Freightliner Classic XL, Kenworth W900) is, if anything, LESS streamlined than a COE! (The first truly streamlined tractor was the KW T2000 in the late 1990's.)

RE: New invention could benefit RVers.

That is total BS. What percentage of a school bus use is at any speed where aerodynamics come into play? Most of the use is slow speed stop and go.
You'd be surprised how many school buses in rural areas run highway speeds.

I painted my car-carrier ramps with textured deck paint...got it at a boat-supply shop. Cost a bit more than grip-tape, but it will last forever!

RE: Emerald Ash Borer profit?

I get pallets from work...we throw away a couple every day. The hardwood ones go in the woodstove, the pine pallets (which are mostly Heineken beer pallets) are for campfires. Anyone asks...it's not firewood, it's lumber scraps.

I almost laughed out loud when I saw the little extinguisher that came in my TT, like thats really going to do a lot of good.
I have one of those in my kitchen...it's for a grease fire or something burning in the oven!
I also have about six big CO2 extinguishers in the bus.

RE: My Anniversary

Just wanted to let you know this marks my 20th anniversary of giving up work---and I'm only 57.
I didn't start RVing until a couple of years later.
Gave up work 20 years ago? Wow--you can retire with a full pension now!
Wait...when you said "gave up work", you DID mean that you got a high-paid, no-show job with the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, right? :D
