RE: Yikes! $3850 for a 5 day rental

But if you're gonna spring for a cruise, better avoid Carnival unless you can swim. :)

RE: Dumping holding tanks explained... Sorta.

I've always loved that story about a child that asked a parent where their puppy came from. The parent figures this is about time to explain the facts of life - and tells the child the version for 10 year olds. When the adult finished, the child said, "Tommy's Mom and Dad got theirs from a kennel".

RE: RV Parks w/older RV restrictions

RV parks don't want a rig that has about 400 yards of mobility left. They want to see it first. That's why the offices have windows. I've seen several posts on here that complain about the beat up RVs that they're parked next to.
If you have a good looking RV that's more than 10 years old, lie. They aren't going to take away your birthday if you get caught. You just have to move on down the road. I can't imagine any CG owner that can tell how old every make and model of rig just by looking at it.

RE: Kentucky Bound

By all means, visit some of the stables in the Lexington area. The horses live better than humans. Keeneland Race track in Lexington is absolutely beautiful (more than Churchill in my opinion), Also, about 40 miles south of Lexington on I-75 exit 77, are a couple of must sees in Berea,KY.
Berea College is located there. The school charges no tuition, but all the students must work as they learn a craft. The output of their labor is sold in the local shops, and you can watch them work. Beautiful wood projects, loom weaving, and my personal favorite, Boone Tavern, owned and operated by the school. Fantastic food, including Kentucky Spoon Bread (wear a belt that stretches). I don't know if its still true, but men were required to wear ties to dine there. They even had loaner ties for the uninformed. Its worth wearing a tie.

RE: Need suggestions for parks FL to NewOrleans I-10

Here's a (maybe) better suggestion. 1st, head to New Orleans, then come east on I-10 to exit 13 S. to the Hollywood Casino/RV park. US Hwy 90 from Bay St.Louis to Biloxi is lined with bayfront casinos and several RV parks across the road from the beach. And you don't have to gamble to enjoy the benefits of the casinos. They're open to the public and most have big time shows going on and nice restaurants. They're cheap because they're just a side show for the casinos. My last time there, I saw Michael Flatley's "Lord of the Dance" show for $10. Ought to earn you a bunch of brownie points with your wife. :)

RE: Sailor Gal Update

Navy Nuke School is the best in the world. I had a buddy years ago that extended his enlistment to attend Nuke School. Having just gotten out of the Navy, I gave him some gas about "shipping for six". After his enlistment was over, he landed a couple jobs consulting on civilian nuke power installs. Now he has his own company based in New Orleans and has been all over the world. He's also filthy rich. Shows what I know.

RE: Semi-perminant location

First step is to find out why the condemned house was condemned. Maybe those utilities you're counting on using weren't installed properly. Won't be hard to check with the local zoning board. Having served on a zoning commisssion, I've seen it happen.

RE: NASCAR at it finest ........huh?

I think you can be pretty sure that the October race will be in Las Vegas. The Casinos will drop a few tickets into the goody bags for the high rollers. But if the high rollers have any sense, they aren't going to actually sit in the sun to watch the race. They'll be sitting in those cushy chairs in the casino sports book, watching it on a two story high screen and sucking down free booze.

RE: Health insurance

As a single early retiree, I paid $1500/ month for health ins. for 11 years until I was eligible for Medicare. I forget the annual deductible but I never made it. When I was offered supplemental for Medicare, the most expensive option was about a tenth of what I was paying before Medicare, so I opted for the "Cadillac" plan.
I'd want to read the Assurant plan first. Sounds like you may only be insured for sickness or injury on February 31st.
BTW, when it was time to sign up for Medicare, I called the number, fully expecting to spend the next three days on the phone.
The initial guy gathered the info he needed, transfered me to the next person, who transfered me to the next. Each one had all my information in front of them when they answered, got the info they needed and passed me on to the next. It took maybe 20 minutes total. I was impressed.

RE: Class act by Canadian hockey fans...

Her national anthem is O Canada. She knew the words to that. But to spring the Star Spangled Banner on her was unfair. The only words I know to O Canada are "O Canada".
Its bad enough to have to sing my own Star Spangled Banner. I know the words, but my vocal cords can't hit the high notes without making all the dogs in the neighborhood howl.

RE: Golf???

Oh No! The USGA and the R & A just announced that anchoring the putter will no longer be allowed. In my personal case, in order for me to put both hands on the putter grip, my arms are anchored to my body from the shoulder to the waist. There are also a few players on the senior tour that suffer from that same malady of old age - "slipped chest". :)

RE: How do I rate a campground on the Good Sam website

In the latest Good Sam park review book, they explain that the parks are now reviewed by folks that actually have a checklist of things to look for and the definitions for the grades. Its in the back of the book.
As previously mentioned, RV Park Reviews allows campers that stayed there to review the parks. But if you look at several of them, you'll find that the low marks and the high marks are often based on things out of the CG owner's control, nor are there any definitions of what's a 10 and what's a 1. I've seen CGs get a 1 from somebody because they allow golfcarts and others that give the same CG a 10 because they allow those same golfcarts.

RE: Sightseeing in a C w/no toad

I'm with Tatest on this, except I always pull a toad because I'm always headed to some attraction. The historic Triangle of Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown all have pull thru parking for RVs at the attractions, but not in the towns.
Yellowstone/Tetons can be driven (mostly) but the bigger the vehicle, the rarer the parking place to pull over.
A lot of the Peter Norbeck Trail in the Black Hills can't be driven in a MH. The drive up to Mt. Rushmore and Needles highway have narrow tunnels, pigtail bridges, and tight 180 degree curves.
BUT - because of that, many of the RV parks in those areas have connections with rental car places like Enterprise.

Maybe its because you post questions about RV Parks in the Class A forum (which you have) and the Class C forum (which you don't), instead of the RV Parks forum, since you're looking for an RV Park.

RE: Taking advantage of the stupid!

As a young man, I got myself deep in debt because credit was easy to get. I was a prompt payer, and they loved me. Then I sat down and figured out how much I was actually paying for that new car. I drove that car until I paid it off(early). Now I pay cash or I don't buy. I've actually had a car salesman try to talk me into financing a car after I told him I was paying cash. They get a kickback.

RE: Golf???

Speaking of the LPGA, I can only dream about being as flexible as the ladies. Their swing from the address position easily travels through 720 degrees. I'm lucky to swing through 360 degrees as I age, and the best I ever did was probably 450 degrees as a young man. If I even tried, I'd be in traction.
