RE: Chevy Traverse and Rockwood Roo 23ss

The GVRW says 4808#.Is that still too much? We would not have much inside the camper except clothes, etc for 2-3 days.
not sure what you're reading but the GVWR for the 2009 23SS is 5879lbs.
if you don't believe me, here's the 2009 brochure:
http://www.uvsconsole.com/manager/admin/cp-brochures/126400711336060.pdf
as i said on your other posts, that's too much trailer for your Traverse's 5200lbs. towing capacity.
any 23SS owner will tell you that it will weigh at least 5000lbs. loaded for camping.
mine is and that's just for the two of us. that's why we didn't buy a Honda Ridgeline, since it had a max towing of 5000lbs.
we loved the 23SS and bought something that could tow it easily without having to worry about every ounce.
an Avalanche with a tow capacity of 7200lbs.

RE: How is the Chevy Traverse towing 5000 lbs?

We have a 2009 Chevy Traverse with a tow package, a distribution kit, GVRW is 4808and brake control. Would that make a difference when pulling a Rockwood Roo 23SS? We have not taken the camper out yet, but understand that we may have to get a heavier tow vehicle (Tahoe or something similar). Our camping is mainly on flat roads and average 2-3 hrs. of driving time. Thoughts and suggestions please? Thanks.
basically your Traverse can tow about the same as the older v-6 Explorers.
there's a member of the Hybrid forum here, with a 23SS and he towed it for a short period with his v-6 Explorer. he soon found it was overmatched.
both of our 23SS's weigh over 5000lbs. loaded for camping and yours will too. so, with any passengers, you've already exceeded the max capacity of your Traverse.
you should have posted your questions on the Hybrid Forum, before you bought the 23SS. we would've advised you to get a smaller hybrid, if you plan to keep the Traverse for towing.

RE: sway bars

that long of a trailer, with the shorter wheelbase of the Tahoe, you really need a good WDH with built-in sway control, not a cheap one with a friction anti-sway bar.
the Equal-i-zer or the Reese Dual-Cam would be the minimum. a ProPride or Hensley would be the best but they are very pricey.
you can get an Equal-i-zer shipped to your door, for around $450 from RVW.
do you have a brake controller or did you not research that either?
that's required by law and may have contributed to your white knuckle experience by not having any trailer brakes.
you can get a Prodigy BC from RVW also, starting under $100.

RE: looking to buy hybrid trailer

personally I would go with one of these. I have 2 young kids as well. Just a thought. separate bunks will be appreciated
unfortunately, the OP is looking for a hybrid trailer and this one is not a hybrid. no canvas.
it's a regular TT that has its bed slideout on the rear, instead of the side.

RE: SUPER High Wind Gizmos

I don't understand this comment. Putting the green side up and teh silver side down doesn't work for what? The silver isn't reflective paint, it's a fabric....there's nothing to "rub off"?
what Bob Pitney at PUGs says is, that they have found no advantages to reversing the PUGs, for colder weather.
meaning that they have found no differences in turning the silver side down to retain heat in cold weather vs leaving the silver side up in cold weather.

Also does anybody know where I can get a electrical ladder schematic for the 2013 233s Roo?
doesn't exist unless you work at the Rockwood/Flagstaff factory.

RE: Looking for it all

I also found a 19' Roo hybrid ( http://buffalo.craigslist.org/rvs/3867073840.html ) that looked promising as it weighs in at 2500 lbs but from what I am gathering it's the billboard sized height that is going to be the killer without a TV that splits up some of that height, eh?
HM
hard to believe that it only weighs 2500lbs.:h
it appears to be the Roo 18, which has a fictional "dry" weight of 2616lbs.
adding the weights of the so-called "options" that all trailers have and the battery, it'll weigh close to 3000lbs. before you add water, propane and cargo.
but as others have said, the frontal area of any full-height trailer will exceed the Flex's specs.

RE: post pictures of your HTT

Habs33, nice looking camper, best of luck with it! One thing though. If that bike carrier is attached to the bumper, I highly advise against it. Those bumpers can't take more than a spare wheel. With the bouncing during travel We've heard of many losing their bikes on the road.
Ray
those thin Jayco bumpers are famous for their weakness.

RE: Shamrock front bunk question

pics are more helpful but if you're talking about the U-hoop that supports the tent on the end of the bunk door, it's a factory item for all hybrids.
except for the ill-fated Thermarest ends on Kodiak/Cub hybrids a few years ago.

RE: Looking for it all

only the smallest single axle hybrid would work with the Flex.
as was said, the 4500 number is rated with only a 150lb. driver. anything or anyone else in the car, reduces that number by its weight.
that 3500lbs. number for the Cub, sounds like a bogus "dry" brochure number, not real sticker weight.
but even at that number, it would weigh over 4000lbs. loaded for camping and your Flex with cargo/passengers would be down to that number for towing.

RE: Bought a used HTT today!

I didn't buy a hybrid for the tent sleeping experience like some people do. For me it was the most room I could get and still tow it with my SUV. Almost everything else I could tow would have required folding the dinette every night for either the kids bed or ours.
i hate to say this but this is same reason many new hybrid buyers give and then they end up selling their hybrid after one season.
it's dealing with the canvas that ends up being the big negative, because they ignored the realities of the canvas, for all the extra sleeping capacity and floorspace, in a smaller package.
yes, these are definitely positives of hybrids BUT it's because of the canvas ends that make all that possible. and many end up getting tired of putting away wet canvas and then having to pull it back out to dry or they get tired of noisy neighbors or dealing with temp control in the bunk ends or numerous other things.
it's said many times, "if you don't love the idea of sleeping under canvas, DON'T buy a hybrid".
of course, you may be an exception but after being on hybrid forums for the past 7 years, it's a very common scenario with new owners.

RE: fridge again

If you don't fully understand the difference between twelve volt direct current and one hundred and twenty volt alternating current you need more instruction that I could attempt here.
Please go back to your dealer and have them carefully explain in detail how RV electrical systems are set up.
This is important.
AMEN to that!
your trailer is propane/110vAC, not 12vDC. only the electronics work on the 12v battery, the cooling doesn't.
only 3-way fridges can be cooled on 12vDC but they are way smaller and usually only found on popups and truck campers.

RE: Dinette bed weight limit on a jayco featherlite?

Now I'm confused. Aren't you in the market for a new TT?? Saw your 6/10 post re 2 TT choices, so I would not spend a lot of time fretting over the weight limit on a HTT dinette/bed....unless you're needing to use the dinette in the new TT for a bed. What did you decide on the TT??
i hope you take more time buying your new TT, than you did buying the Jayco, a couple of months ago, instead making a impulsive purchase again.
and when you do, make sure the dealer gives you a FULL PDI, so that all your questions are answered and you are better informed on operating the new trailer, than you were on the Jayco.
if you had done a little more research and investigation at sites like this one, most of us would have told you that that would be a very small trailer to be in for a family.
and the most common recommendation: Buy your second trailer, FIRST!

RE: Campground along PCH

Thanks for all your help....I hope we get a chance to stay at one of the campgrounds.
Rincon Parkway is NOT a campground. if you are thinking of a campground, then it has to be Thornehill Broome, which is a real campground. Rincon is simply parking spaces, on the shoulder, along the old PCH.
and Faria and Hobson, which are real campgrounds, are REALLY difficult to get.

RE: Dealer walk through, what would you do the second time?

just a comment, that trailer is going to be an issue for your Taco, when you start getting in the mountains. with an actual weight of around 4500lbs. from the factory, you can easily be in the 5500lbs. loaded for camping range.
that v-6 can probably handle the flats but it will struggle in places like the Rockies or Sierras or a strong headwind.
