RE: Claiming a first come campsite

Ok, so here is a question I'll be dealing with this summer. 3 families meeting up in a campground. Half of it is first come first served. We are arriving on a Monday from different parts of the country. Would it be kosher if the first family went ahead and claimed (and paid) for 3 spots knowing that all three will be occupied by the end of the day? It's a very popular campground in Colorado which is why we are arriving on a Monday in hopes of there being 3 sites available. Thoughts? Absolutely NOT right , not moral and just wrong! "I checked the rules for several federally operated campgrounds, including National Park, Forest Service and BLM Web sites. This seems to be the standard: "At least one camper must occupy site on first night and campers may not leave equipment unattended for more than 24 hours." The wording was nearly identical for each site. " and thanks to the above poster for that quote.

RE: Claiming a first come campsite

"All bets are off, though, if it's a no-fee CG and somebody notices that there's nobody actually OCCUPYING the site the first night or so." Correct -most cgs - especially fed. or state require that the site be occupied for the NIGHT *usually the first night). This prevents folks coming in early, for example Thursday, marking the site as occupied but not intending to use the site for the weekend.

RE: tiny house anyone?

Our 'home' is a 400 sq. ft. Parkmodel with an "Arizona Room" attachment of additional 400 sq.ft in a "resort" style park. Travel in the summer our medium sized MH. Love this lifestyle!

RE: Mosquitos!

I've found those clip on battery operated repellent fans to actually work pretty well. Can't think of who makes them right now, but they're all over. In addition to the beer, of course! They do work pretty well. They are an "OFF" product. We have even just put them on each end of the picnic table and stayed pretty comfortable - in northern Idaho. Have replaceable cartridges. We use new cartridges each season.

RE: Easiest route to Rapid City from Denver towing a 26' TT

The last time I went from Denver to renew my driver's license in Rapid City I took I 76 to Sterling then north on 385 (Sidney/Alliance/Chadron) to SD 79 (just south of Hot Springs) into Rapid City. Very good roads and interesting prairie country. WE actually have done this route twice. John

I couldn't get anything to open on your link. Sorry about that. I can't get it over to the forum. Picture shows snow over the eaves of the Visitor's Center, May 16. Road should be open soon but maybe not the Center for a while!

RE: US-40 north from I-70 doable in CO?

Absolutely doable. Many passing lanes and done by many, many RVs every year! Just use those passing lanes to let faster traffic go by. Enjoy!!

RE: Pets are NOT to be left unattended... what??

" Because there are many different versions of unattended. And unless a campground tells me how they define it, i don't ask and do as i would at home. " What in the world do you mean?? Give us some examples of different meanings. Unattended means just that. So don't interpret it to suit yourself!

RE: Pets are NOT to be left unattended... what??

The way I look at it, is that it's nobody's business what's going on inside my rig - unless it somehow affects (noise) the neighborhood. Yes - if it barks or whines out loud it affects the neighbors. If the rig overheats- that is the public's interest as animal abuse - illegal in most places!. If you need to take your pet(s) you need to take care of it/them. NOT leave them alone! Follow the cg rules please.

RE: Portable Satelite Dish, Is renting a option

ASk around and you probably can find one. When I had our new home set up with Direct I happened to mention to the tech that I needed one for my MH so I could take my receiver bow on trips. He had one in his truck that he had taken off somewhere and he just gave it to me. Bought a tripod from Radio Shack. Works well for us.

RE: "Pocket Hose" reviewed on Consumer Reports

It is a GARDEN hose! Never meant to service an RV IMHO! Forget about it.

RE: Chaco Canyon well worth the drive!

Y hasn't the park service fixed the road? Because MOST of the road is NOT in the National Park! And most of us who have been there prefer that it stay that way to keep most "lookey-seers" discouraged??
