RE: Contemplating the change

For a bit of fun I recommend the Sue Henry mystery series featuring Maxine McNab who travels around in her Winnebago with her dog Stretch. Of course at each location there is a mystery to solve but reading about her solo adventures is entertaining.

RE: NE adult only campgrounds?

Hi..... We love Lake Forest in East Wakefield NH. It is low key, on a Class A lake -Great East Lake It has large wooded campsite. There is a dock to sit on on the lake. If you golf there is a small golf .course. There are weekly events like pot luck suppers and other such things. Many people have canoes and sailboats at the water front. If you like bike riding there is a wonderful bike trail about 10 miles away. You can start at Fernald Station and bike into Wolfboro....Lake Winnapasaukee. It is our favorite place to go for a weekend. We also like Wild Duck in Scarborough ME. There is also a bike trail near there that you can ride into Old Orchard Beach. We have also been to Beacon Hill in PA. It is nice. and we stayed at the Lake Champlain adult campground. Nice place. We have stayed at Danforth Bay but not in the adults section The Bluffs. You have to stay a minimum of a week there. We did tour The Bluffs and it is very nice. Great pool. I teach third grade and as much as I love my students....all 29 of them...it is nice to be able to get away to a quiet place.

Boston to Outer Banks

Hello, We are heading to the Outer Banks on Friday . In the past when going to Virginia Beach we have always gone to the KOA Newburgh Ny and then down the Jersey turnpike. We are trying to figure out if we can end up more south than Newburgh NY as that takes us more north than we like. Is it possible to avoid the George Washington Bridge without going north to cross the river? We have yet to be able to figure an alternative route while towing our trailer. We are looking at trying to get to Croton on the Hudson for the first night instead of going to Newburgh. We know we cant go on anything that says Parkway in NY. We learned this the hard way after we got onto the Taconic without realizing that we were not supposed to be there....despite the huge sign that we both missed seeing. We were pulled over by the police.
Thanks for any input,
Marianne Johnson

RE: Seasonal Site

The DW has requested that we get a seasonal site this year. The reason is that we are the newly minted grandparents of a currently 4 month old grandson. My wife does not want to miss one burb or hiccup, so we are going to stay local to ensure our fair share of fun time with the DGS.
That said, we have secured a seasonal site in the Poconos, Pa. Any tips or issues to be aware of when seasonal site camping? I've been camping since 1987, so the basics are covered. Thanks in advance ...
Hi, We are in the same situation. We are having our first grandchild in the middle of July. I teach school and have the summers off . In 2007 we bought a 21ft travel trailer to go across the country in. Since then we have traveled out west 4 times and down the eastern seaboard 2 times. This year we want to go away for a while but only locally. Maybe to PEI in Canada. We are also thinking of staying a week or so at one of our two favorite campgrounds. We have never stayed a week in one place so I am worried that I would be bored after a while. We are thinking that someday we might like to rent a seasonal site in the winter in Florida. I just worry that being in one place all the time will be boring as we are used to being on the go all summer.

RE: Rv storage in Florida

Thank you all so much for all this information. We have been to Florida on non rv trips and we have driven from MA with our travel trailer down the east coast to Florida in the summer of 2008 and the summer of 2011. We are avid snorkelers and want to be on the Keys if possible. We have not explored the panhandle or the Naples area at all. Thanks again for all the info. I appreciate it.

Rv storage in Florida

Hello,
We are not snowbirds as I still work but my husband is retired. Today he brought up the idea of taking our rv to Florida now, finding storage and then if we fly down have it taken out of storage and set up on a site in a campground. Has anyone done this or know someone who has done this? I teach school so we would go down at Christmas, a week in February and then a week in April. We are in the pre pre palnning stages of this new idea and any advice is welcomed.
Thank you, Marianne

RE: Store bought boiled eggs - Really pretty good

Hi Trader Joes has then by the bag. I think there are about 6-8 eggs in the bag. They are fine to me. If there is a Traders Joes nearby look in the egg section. They are usually on the top shelf.

RE: Cruiser RV Fun Finders

Hi, We bought our FunFinder 21ft in 2007. It is just the two of us and sometimes we wish we had more room...maybe a slideout. Slideouts were not available then. I think it would kind of uncomfortable to have a third person in it with us but our daughters are grown so that is not an issue. I cant advise on weight and towing as I know next to nothing about it but I can say that we love our FunFinder. It have traveled thousands of miles first pulled by a 2002 Tundra and now by a 2010 Tundra. We have had small issues at times with it but it was nothing unfixable. We talk of getting a bigger Rv or maybe a 5th wheel but neither one of us can imagine saying goodbye to "our little FunFInder"...I would buy another one without hesitation.
As soon as we walked into it at the dealers we both felt like it was home.
Good luck in your search.

RE: Best bug prevention tactic?

I rceently bought an Off lantern bug thing...it looks like a latern that you might have next to your ftont doot but much smaller. It has aplace for the small candle that comes with it. It also has a blue strip that sits in a slot on the top of the candle. The heat from the candle releases the stuff from the blue strip. It claims to cover a 15 sq ft area. We have used it and it seems to work. I got it in a supermarket from the Off products display shelves. The replacement candle/blue strip are expensive but if it works thats ok by me. I read a lot of good reviews about it on Amazon
let me clarify....the blue strip is in the slot at the top of the lantern. It is about 3 inches away from the candle. It doesnt sit on top of the candle but hangs above it....

RE: ANy "Must See" or places to camp in Maine??

We love Maine. Our favorite campground is Wild Duck. Adults only. 5 minutes away there is a nice bike path though the dunes one way and into Old Orchard beach the other way. It is in Scarborough. There is also a place to rent canoes right before the bike path. Wild duck also rents them. We love Boothbay. If you like gardens check out the Atlantic Coastal Garden. A very beautiful place. The Ogunquit Lobster House or maybe Pot,,,steams the lobsters right out front on huge vats of seawater...the BEST way to steam in my opinion. They also serve it cracked open making it much easier to eat. Ogunquit is a nice little town. Camden is a great Maine coastal town. I agree about Acadia being a must if you have time. We enjoy biking on the old carriage roads. And although many say Bar Harbor is too touristy I like it there. Lots of shops and restaurants. There is a really interesting Indian Museum there called the Abbe Indian Museum. Years ago in our preRV days we drove all the way up to Eastport. I want to go back there with the RV sometime. We went to Campabello and toured the Roosevelt summer home there. We have also traveled through the interior of Maine..Poland Springs, Mt Keneo (sp?).....Eustis..Rangely Lakes.....We did a Windjammer out of Rockland many many many years ago. We also went to Bailey Island many tiimes but not with the Rv.....It is right near Brunswick...home of Bowdoin Collage. They have a museum and summer theather there. To me anywhere along the Maine coast is beautiful. Enjoy your trip

RE: Cruiser RV's

We bought our first and only trailer in 2007. Its a Funfinder 21ft. We love it. There have been some issues some our fault and some not our fault but nothing unfixable. We did a tour of the factory when we were crossing Indiana in 2007. We went back in 2010 to get a new microwave glass plate as I had left the microwave door inlatched and the plate fell out and broke into pieces. They also gave me an extra shower curtain as it is an odd size and hang on small bendable hooks. We have been having "fun" in it and it has crossed the county 3 times and down to Florida 2 times. And many many places inbetween. I dont know anything about construction or anything about the Shadow Crusier but I would buy another FunFinder without a second thought.
