RE: Changing Dr Lic and address question

DH tags the 5er, TV and his DL in a tax friendly state. We use our DD's address for my DL and some of the bills. Internet, Satellite, cell phones only because the state charges outrageous fees/taxes on our bill.
A few years ago, we changed the satellite location different than billing to get local stations. Now we get to pay higher taxes in some states (NC) just to have the privilege of seeing the local advertisements.

RE: Inside Decorating of Camper

Since we sit for long periods, once we get set up, I hang 4 of my Norman Rockwell collector plates. Rehang some other wooden plates we got in Williamsburg, VA the 2nd year of fulltiming. Readjust any loose framed photos, paintings, etc we've acquired at Craft shows or Tourist shops with highlights from our travels.
Then I unroll the area rugs, readjust the Bed Bath and Beyond comforter or quilt (depending on the season) and the afghans in multi colors that I've made. Then lastly, I hang a few dragonfly trinkets we've found on the road.
A few family photo collections also come out of the closet and we're back at home sweet home.

RE: How do you replace all the tires on a 5th wheel?

Most of the tire locations we've seen don't have the space for long trailers. We figured we'd need to use a tire center that does 18-wheelers when we bought our 38'.
But since we ordered our unit with 6-point leveling, DH pushed a few buttons, took off the old wheels, drove to the lowest bidder and they put the new tires on the rims. Then he drove back to the RV Park and reinstalled one at a time. Pumped them up and we were set.
He just checked the pressure yesterday and they have maintained the same pressure for 10 mos. Perfect!

RE: Looking for Trailer For Retired Parents

We're close to retirement age and a bathtub is not high on our priority list. Neither is a King bed. Had 2 different 5ers with King's and they are just too hard to make. We much prefer our standard Queen size and there's so many more options for mattress replacement.
Some people like a split bath and some like us prefer an enclosed one. Some days, we wish we had a two holer! Our shower seems small occasionally. But there are 48" showers in many of the newer units.

RE: How to find a campground

Besides calling campgrounds to see if they have monthly rates, we've contacted locals in the area. 7 years ago, at a KOA in VA that didn't have monthly rates, DH asked the person at the desk about any places that might have them. They knew of a Mobile Home Park that had a few RV spaces. Much cheaper and closer to the jobsite.
Friday, we're heading to MN and I happened to spot a RV.net user who lived in the same city we're heading. They gave us the information on another MH Park and we were able to make reservations over the phone. Turns out it's less than 10 mins from jobsite and cheaper than some of the other RV Parks I found online.
Once I knew the name, I could find it easily. But there are so many obscure camping website locators, that it didn't show up on any of my previous searches.
We've stayed in quite a few MHP's, so we aren't concerned about finding one "site" unseen.

RE: Washer/dryer choices

We've had Majestic stacked, that we could never use because of poor installation (?), 30 amp sites, etc. Then Whirlpool/Kenmore stacked (in closet dryer sat on a shelf) that did a great job. Now, Splendide side by side front loading. I would recommend anything but Majestic.
The advantage of two units, is when washing clothes and linens on the same day, 1st load is in dryer when 2nd load is washing.

RE: We found a camper!!

Personally, I think you're heading in the wrong direction. We left the West Coast (lived in CA, WA & OR) in the 80's and headed to Georgia. Even today, nearly 30 years later, we're so glad we never moved back to the PacNW.
Jobs for myself, DH and our children have been so much easier to find and keep here in the southern states. CG rents are also much lower...
But definitely take the route slow. We typically travel 4-6 hrs to enable us to park and set up before 2pm when the mad rush for spaces from other RV travelers fills up the remaining sites.

RE: buying rv

If you want to tag your vehicle in GA, it doesn't matter which state you buy in.
I'm not sure if you may need to pay the upfront ad valorum rather than the annual for the state of GA, plus whatever the sales tax is now. Most states have a reciprocal agreement and a dealer in FL will send the state of GA the correct sales tax. They did ours back in 1999. That's why we 'moved' to FL before we fulltime.

RE: job to do from the road

I was in the same place 8 years ago. But soon found even sitting in one spot 4-6 mos, there wasn't anything I wanted to do compared to my former job skills (head buyer at a orthotic/prosthetic warehouse).
Luckily, I've found over the last 8 years, I can find plenty to keep me busy and don't miss working one bit. Plus, eliminates more W-2's to wait for and increased taxes. We already have to worry about paying taxes in multiple states from DH's job. But with one employer, we only have one W-2.

RE: Good Sam Visa

We used our UPS Store address and got one a few years ago. I like that we get 3X points when we charge the CG rent.

RE: Using a UPS with DirecTv DVR R-22

That looks very close to the same model we have. We initially bought it for the Desktop. But now we've switched to laptops and tablets, so put it in storage.
But since we've been in this RV Park, the power will go out and reset 3-4X's a month. So this weekend, we are going to retrieve it from storage and see how it works.
One defect ours had, even though it would hold power for 8 hrs, it is quite heavy and seemed to run hot. They didn't have the 'Green Feature' that this one has.

RE: Converting my Class A

What is a jack-n-jill bath?
Jim
She may mean a split bath, which is really more common in 5th wheels than TT's.
A JnJ is between 2 bedrooms, usually the smaller kids bedrooms in SnB. Think Brady Bunch. LOL

RE: Converting my Class A

You're talking about a very tall, very long TT. So what will you use for a tow vehicle?
But if you must change it out, go talk to Bret Michaels at "Rock my RV". They do silly stuff to RV's, too.

RE: rv windows

Our frame less windows are dual pane...made by Kinro.
Our frameless windows are also dual pane. But I have no idea who makes them. We also have a few HEHR dual panes on the slideouts.

RE: What to buy to replace XP?

Rather than go to Win8, DH went Apple when his laptop died. I'd rather stay with Win7 because I know it and some applications (like Banks PDA software updates) don't work with Apple.

RE: Digital Satellite Meter discussion

We have a Accutrac III that didn't work as easily as advertised. And at the one and only time we've used it with any success in that last 4 years, we had switched back to SD receivers.
We changed our Winegard Dome to a SK-3005 and are much happier with it.

RE: Tossing ideas for future RV purchase

We rented a Cls C for vacation back in the late 70's. We had 3 kids under the age of 8, one a baby. While it was easy to put them to bed while we drove long miles at night, nowadays, everyone would be horrified because we didn't have the baby or 2 yo in car seats.
Your kids are so young that buying a MH now doesn't guarantee it will work for you by the time they are grown and out of the house. Buy according to your budget, buy according to today's needs.

RE: Epic (for us) road trip

Years ago we left Atlanta for a family reunion on the Oregon Coast. We were in our minivan. It was crammed full with 5 of our 6 kids (ages 7-16), so we drove up to I-40 and didn't stop until we hit Albuqueque. Had family there, so we rested up a couple of nights and saw old town Albuq. BTW: DH and I revisited last 4th of July and still enjoyed it. Especially, good Mexican food, much better than anything we had had in San Antonio.
Then from there we headed to the Grand Canyon. Before GPS, I depended on my Road Atlas. Knew we needed a break before the GCnyon, so when I saw we'd be going through the Petrified Forest NP, we decided to take a break. We walked, we ooed and awwded and took video of the petrified rock sculptures, some were "talking rocks" and the beautiful views of the Painted Desert. We ALL thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Finally, I had to call everyone back into the minivan for the final time and it was off to the Grand Canyon.
Amazingly, I found it not as exciting and sort of a letdown. We walked around, took a few photos, lost 2 of the kids (oldest and youngest) who decided to try one of the trails down into the canyon and headed west through the Mojave Desert. We timed it so we'd be driving at night, because we heard it would be too hot in July for most radiators.
From GC, we drove up to the Redwood Forest. Our Astro van with mirrors pulled in was just wide enough, that we could drive through one of the trees at the Visitor's Center. Also a highlight of our trip.
