My wife and I are looking to purchase a Class C, sprinter chasis motorhome and have been able to find a lot of feedback on the Winnebago View - Itasca Navion but can't find many details or reviews in regards to the Fleetwood Icon/Pulse. Does anyone out there own one of these and how has your experience been with it? And for those of you who know a thing or two about these vehicles, which would you recommend, the Navion or the Icon?

Thanks in advance,
Buddy Boy!

Buddy . . I have a Navion myself. I did take a look at the Pulse at an RV show this year. Very nice looking unit. Realistically, there isn't a huge amount of difference between any of the Sprinter based Class Cs. I think your decision really comes down to small things with layout/floorplan (and they really are small differences) and color choices. The longer slide-out on the Pulse/Icon is kind of nice from a roomier perspective but it is pretty heavy too. The Pulse/Icon is a bit taller as well and offers a bit more outside storage but it is really not that much more. (The advertised "pass through storage" is a bit of a joke. I thought that was an awesome feature until I saw it . . . you could maybe store a fishing rod (sans reel) or a couple of irons from your golf bag in there). The tradeoff, of course, is a higher profile, and a heavier house (less CCC).

The differences between the Winnie product, Fleetwood, Gulfstream, and Coachman are REALLY negligible so the best plan is probably to check them out and pick what you like.

The main reason for less available info on the Pulse/Icon is only because they are new in the last few months whereas the View/Navion has been around for a couple years.

Overall, we are VERY pleased with our Sprinter-based decision. It is a good platform.

Quick answer:

If you don't plan to own it until the wheels fall off, then don't buy anything but the View/Navion.

The reason is everybody knows what they are, and knows they are good quality. Come resale time nobody will have a clue what a "fleetwood icon/pulse" is, but there will be hundreds of folks searching online for used Views/Navions.

If you DO plan to keep it forever, then go with what you like, but keep in mind the quality of the winnebago products is already proven.. The others are still too new to tell. I'd suggest asking people's comments on fleetwood in general too before giving them you're money.

My son-in-law is a Diesel Mechanic working for a company that uses the Mercedes Diesel utilised in the Navion etc. I believe the chasis is the same. He says it is loaded with tools such as welder and many other heavy articles. The vehicle travels in the hill country of northern Calif. with no difficulty. Let me tell you, I know this guy (too fast for me) he has a heavy foot so I know he doesn't baby the unit. Anyway, he swears by it. Am considering the IQ.

I'd get the Navion with the gas option myself.

the winnie has a fiberglass roof, do the others? if not the differences aren't really negligible, IMHO.

Bumpy . . . good point about the fiberglass roof. One of the reasons we chose the Navion of the Gulf Stream. Obviously there are a lot of folks that are happy with the TPO roofs but I do prefer the fiberglass.
