Yes it looks like we will starting with 2013 models from the Big Three. Be nice when you see 15,000 lb rating you know its there. Not just one trying to best the others..
Think this is a good start, But also need do do the same on HP and all Ratings.

True towing weights on the way.

How much did the Tundra's rating go down when they implemented the new standard?

I'm already betting it will add two or three pages to the warranty disclosures on new trucks also In some cases it may mean a manufacturer will have wording saying "the rating is only this much" but we will still honor our warranty if you tow X amount or in other cases "the rating is X amount but your warranty will only cover XY amount of weight.

Not at ALL sure it's a good thing to have that same kind of honesty in towing specs we currently have with EPA mileage figures (we all know how accurate those are)

2007 Rockwood 8314SS 34' travel trailer

US Govt survey shows three out of four people make up 75% of the total population

There is a SAE standard for horsepower and torque.

http://www.sae.org/certifiedpower/

J1349 and J1995

http://www.sae.org/certifiedpower/data/

Now, just spend some money and you can see the test data.

400 to 1,100 lbs, depending on trim.

Just get a diesel and forget about all those make believe numbers that may or may not be true depending on wind, grade and loading.

I read the story, but was disappointed in the lack of specifics. Is there some place to get more info?

The specs are still performance oriented, but it does put all manufactures who agree to it, on the same footing. Otherwise IMHO, it is still a toss up as to IF the ratings will still allow one to meet ones own views as to if a rig is rated appropriately, of which my dmax is not!

now if they'll just do the same for minivans and CUVs!

then we won't have, "Can my Honda CRV tow this 27' travel trailer?"

The standards are voluntary and can be applied to any light duty vehicle at the discretion of the manufacturer.
