Sitting in a rest area with a flat rear tire on 2003 my winnebego 31c. Smelt rubber and felt slight bumping luckily right near the entrance to a rest stop on my way to vegas...thru vegas anyway. Tires were coded 2010 when i bought the rv but they are cheap tires. It was an outside tire that blew. Still had a little air and tread was just starting to seperate. Inside tires were hot and the one by the blowout looked bigger than it should have. Probably stressed from carrying all the weight of tbat side. I have a spare...likely a cheap tire too. I am 40 miles from barstow and 100 from vegas. I have a couple questions i need quick advice on. After the spare is installed i plan on (tomorrow) biting the bullet and replacing all 4 rear tires. 1) do you think i am ok driving tbe 100 miles to get to a vegas store rather than backtracking 40? 2) does anyone have a recommended vegas tire store? 3) any tire recommendations for me? I dont want to break the bank but dont want to be in the same boat again next year but also dont plan on owning it much more than 2 more years.

Any advice? Btw i feel very lucky for where it happened and that no additional damage was do.e...i want to keep it that way.

Thanks, jeff

Once you put on the spare, you should be fine for the 100 miles to Vegas. After all, you have 2 tires carrying the weight.

I once found I had an outer dually flat and was nowhere near an open tire shop. It was in mid-northern BC, Saturday evening, nothing open. I drove about 450 miles home with a flat. 2 days later I took it in, expecting to replace the tire. They patched it, and the tire suffered no damage whatsoever. Hmm surprise!

Anyhow, you should be fine with 2 tires full of air!

As for the rest of your question, sorry, cannot help you there.

Might be more tire stores in Vegas than Barstow, perhaps allowing you to get more competitive pricing. I'd check that before making a decision. And check Big O, a great company to deal with if they are in your home area too.

There was a tire thread going on General and many were advocating Discount Tire. I see that there are many locations in Vegas. I did a search on their website...lots of choices.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from Discount Tire stating that 5/25 (today) and tomorrow 5/26 they are giving a $100 Visa card with the purchase of 4 tires. Check it out.
4 tires - $100 mail-in rebate
2 tires - $50 mail-in rebate.
If you take advantage of the offer make copies of the rebate form and check on the status before the mail-in deadline date.
I sent a $100 rebate form in and waited too long to check on the status and they said the form was never received. Yesterday I faxed copies to customer service and am hoping it works out.

thanks for all of the phone numbers and for the advice, both public and private. Tow driver did a good job last night and we got some sleep. Inside tire on the blowout sidehad pretty high pressure even once it cooled. Spare looked really good and was up to pressure. I feel confident i can make it to vegas but will go slow because of how hot the inside tire got. Then i am going to have the tireguys look at all four. At minimum i replace just the blown out tire....it was blown out bad. Very many more.miles the tread would have been slapping my coach to pieces.... worst case i replace all four. Likely scenario is i replace two, but first thing is to get to a tire store and talk with someone about my risks optionsand costs. I think i am discount tire bound....After coffee. I'll call them when they open so they can start locating tires in my size.

Thanks again. I'll post my results later today for thread closure.

yet another example pushing me towards buying a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Very glad you caught it before major damage to your coach!

A couple of thoughts:

If you replace 4 tires (replace 4 rear duels)

If you go with only 2 tires replaced, put 2 new tires on front & move front tires to rear (taking for granted that the fronts match the current 4 rears and are in good condition)

if only replacing 1 tire and your spare matches the other remaining rear duels, put the spare & new tire on the front and move front tires to rear (again taking for granted that the front tires match the rears)

I'm concerned about what you have said about the inner rear being over inflated and with the outer tire failing the inner now has been stressed due to overheating and inflation.

Any Idea what caused the blowout ?

double check the tire pressure on all your tires before you restart your journey.

No signs of why it blew out. Tread just started seperating. Tire that went was 2009. My tgeory is just a crappy chinese tire. Brand was "savero" ever heard of it? Anyway, sitting at discount tire getting a full set of coopers. Since they could see no cause i did not want to trust the brand. Plus this way all of them get road hazard replacement and all are new and same brand with free tire rotations later. Cost was 1000 and i get a 150 rebate. Buying a peice of mind and avoiding future nail costs.

i dont see much on the web for savero except they are very cheap and are made in china. Several youtube videos with blowouts like mine but also lots of good reviews from people who play in the mud. Ifeel i made the right decision getting rid of them all. Could have gotten better than the coopers for another 80-100/ tire but i reallyam hoping to upgrade to a new rv fall of 2013 so i could not justify the extra 6-800
