Does anyone know whether or not class C manufacturers wire their units for backup cameras, even if the cameras are not installed? I'm looking at a used Gulf Stream 6268 which doesn't have one and I'd like to know how much of a hassle it would be to install one. Even the wireless units need 12v and I'm not crazy about having to tear the unit apart to find power. Comments?

I personally have never found one pre-wired. and you might want to research a little more on the wireless one. Everyone I found did not have the capabilities/quality for the length of a MH.

When I took it in to get an estimate to put a real back up camera in they wanted the coach for the entire day. The only really pain in installing it is fishing the wire up the back and drilling holes in the back of the inside of your MH, installing camera and then making sure it doesn't leak! Long story short I was already on the road when I decided to put one in and was not able to leave the MH in a shop for an entire day. I have been towing and backing into CG sites for over 4 years now without a backup camera.

Winnebago was pre-wiring for the camera in high-end models around 2004-2005 when cameras started becoming more common. I don't know if they still do it, and don't know what Gulfstream does.

I would contact Gulfstream and inquire. I do know that Dynamax prewired for most options in their harnesses. I taken advantage of this fact for the optional reading lights and bedroom satellite receiver.

Newest issue of Trailer Life has an article on one. It gets 12 volt power from the clearance light. Signal to unit in cab is wireless. They show details of it being installed.

Wireless is your answer.

If you really want wired --- as I did for a very specific technical reason, wire can be done along existing harnesses.
