So here I am with my new-to-me 2005 F250, 6 litre PSD, and broke down in Montmagny Quebec. It slowly lost power over around a half hour or so, started to run very rough, and now will barely run at all. I did run it fairly low on fuel, and I could well have gotten bad fuel on my trip. If I change the fuel filters, am I likely to cure this? What can I do to troubleshoot?

Any CEL's Brian?
First thing you need to do is pull the codes. Never a bad idea to pull the fuel filter and take a look or drain a bit and see what you see.
Any weird smoke out the exhaust? Any idea when the EGR valve was last pulled or looked at? Also do you have a boost gauge? If so what does it read?

No engine check light, don't have a code scanner with me.
Yes, it sputtered and died, I drove it to a safe spot.
No tuner, no mods.
Serviced a week, and 2,000 miles ago.
I did run it down on fuel, it took 100 litres to fill, the tank capacity is apparently 115 litres, so it had around 4 gallons left.
edit: boost gauge shows that it is not making much boost at all, but then it barely runs now.
No real expectation that I got bad fuel, but I've run a bunch of fuel through it in the past week, around 8 to 10 tanks.
6.0 are world famous for blown turbos which probably explains the low boost, and if you're getting low to no power you can just about bank on it. Look for any signs of oil leakage in engine bay from oil lines. I wish the best for you but doubt it is fuel related. Check the EGR tube as well, and all clamps from intake and exhaust hoses, they could have come loose. keep us posted
If there is a vapor lock in the fuel system, it will also do exactly what you said.
Since you ran it low (4 gallons is still enough), that should not have happened --- unless there is an additional problem such as an improperly installed filter / filter cap.
That cause air to be sucked in, and over time --- the air will produce the exact symptom you mentioned.
Ditto for air in the oil system (another likely if you just had oil changed).
Solution --- check for air leaks first.
Then, if that checks --- do my standard fix assuming that you can still start the motor.
sounds like what happened to my 7.3(2000) Had to replace the computer that is located through the passenger side wheel well(forgot the name.) someone will know the name, you can buy rebuilt ones for 1/3 the price of a new one.
