Could this be the park that is now a KOA......it does get good reviews. Never been
But people here like it for a stopover. Maybe someone can clarify....
Ft Chiswell is not a KOA. It's very convenient to I-81, just a few minutes off the exit yet you do not get the road noise. Also a couple of gas stations at this same exit before hitting the road the next morning.

Looks like that will be the best option. Thanks all. As always, good advice from experience wins the day.

Ditto
We liked the look of that one too but it's more removed from the interstate and we will only need a one nighter. Reviews said the cg was more hilly and the road to the cg a more narrow access. For a one nighter after a long day on the road, I'm more inclined to a no-brain access.
Fancy Gap is very attractive though and if we were staying more than one night, we'd certainly top-list it. May still stay there, who knows? There's always the flip-flop trip when we can travel more leisurely and don't have to keep a schedule.

We have an F250 Supercrew and the total length of our TT is 35'. WE didn't find the road to the cg to be narrow. And it's not that far from the highway at all. There are two ways to get to it. We found it a little easier to go the way that the signs don't direct you. If coming from the north then you would go back across the hoghway towards the east. If coming from the south, then turn right and head east. The campgroudn is on the east side of the highway. If you follow the signs to it, it will have you over o nthe west side and go down and back across the highway. If you come off the highway and head east, you will go down to a stop sign. Turn right, head south until you get to the onramp to the BRP, but keep to the right. The campground will then be on the left and is much easier to enter that way. It is a sharper turn coming in from the other direction.
The CG is in two sections. One is on a hill and the first part is on a slight incline but not bad. There are pull through sites there, which is where we stayed. The sites are not off level too bad.
The road to Fancy Gap KOA has been widened some . They put in some New Water Lines and cut the brush back off the road.
I did a 2 nighter there the first of May, and it was a nice place to stay. Some sights are a little tight but they will accommodate your needs if possible. Very Nice Owner/Manager
Fuel available on your way out at a good price. Exit 8 I71

If the two Flying J's are full, there's a TA Travel Center nearby that's RV friendly. And of course, there's a Walmart Supercenter in Wytheville itself, which isn't too far off the interstates.
