One of our two dogs get sick when in a moving vehicle. I phrase it that way because he has gotten sick in the car, RV and in a bicycle dog seat. We've tried anti-anxiety medicine from our vet and the thunder jacket. The Vet has just prescribed dramamine which may solve the problem. We haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. Still, it got me wondering what other pet-loving RVers have done. Any advice?

I am not sure what the connection between the dog getting motion sickness and whether or not it has fleas is?
Some animals get motion sickness, some get anxious being in a vehicle. some would rather stay home or in a Kennel.

Try laying out a FRESH newspaper for him to lay on. Our daughter used to get car sick as well as our dog. The paper kept our daughter from feeling sick, when she felt a little woozy, she would take a hit ( big sniff ) off the paper and all was good. We laid it out for the dog and he didn't get sick any more either. It has to be fresh and use the inner pages to get the freshest part. It is the ink that does it, had a pediatrician suggest this to us, to avoid giving our daughter any meds.

Thank you eHoefler. I never would have thought of that. We'll test it in the toad.

Interesting. Newsprint used to contain a petroleum based ink, remember how it would come off on your fingers? You smelled the ink as soon as you opened the morning paper. Some folks loved it and others claimed that scent could set off an asthma attack. However, for some years now, most newspapers use a vegetable based ink. I am not sure if the switch was due to the cost of oil or if it was because of liability issues. It will be interesting to see if the carsick remedy still works.

Our dog, Molly, which traveled extensively with us till she passed away would always get car sick so I would give her a full child's tablet of dramamine 1 hour before starting and that solved her problems - always. I would also just feed her a partial meal and give her the rest with her next meal when we made our next stop. The dramamine would work so well that I made sure to always have a bottle of it in the camper as well as in my purse to make sure I always had a dose available for her.

Hopefully the dramamine will work. We plan to go on a test drive tomorrow evening using the dramamine. I'll let you know how it works. I think I also want to do a test drive with newspaper. It'd be great if no drugs were required!

We are planning to take the dogs with us on a 3 month RV trip beginning in August, so I want to get this problem resolved quickly.
