RE: Want to replace Outdoor BBQ with propane instead

The Sidekick grill on the side of our camper is extremely handy and useful. We don't spend half a day setting up a temporary residence, nor spend much time on the campsite at all. The gas grill attaches in about two minutes and can be grilling brats, steaks, chicken, or fish ten minutes later. -- Chuck

RE: Yet another leveling question

Some effort in construction pays off in convenient to-the-millimeter leveling. Just pull onto them and inflate to suit. The chocks are Roto Chocks. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/76973688-2008_10_04_0391_S.jpg width=200http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/05216443-2008_10_04_0392_S.jpg width=200http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/77299211-2008_10_04_0393_S.jpg width=200 -- Chuck

RE: Do I want this for Christmas

The Flo-Jet is a 12v system. You should be able to see the red/white pigtail in the photo I posted earlier. There are no disadvantages to the system other than complete overkill if you're thinking of using this on a full service campsite where gravity will work well with the horrible 3" stinky slinky hose. And the Sewer Solution works as well for distances up to about 20' if you have pressure water available (it's water powered). But if you want to dump your black tank into a sewer 75' away and uphill from your camper the Flo-Jet is the way to go. We've not dumped at a state park dump site in the four years I've had the pump. Ya need to be careful what you put in the toilet! Baby wipes will usually flush out via a 3" hose. They ain't coming out thru the Sewer Solution's 3/4" hose nor thru the Flo-Jet as they'll foul the cutter blades. I became intimately acquainted with the Flo-Jet cutter/pump assembly after an episode of baby wipes. :( -- Chuck

RE: Folding Canvas, Holding Tanks, and Bears!

Here's how I fold our Roo beds. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/IMG_0953.JPG width=640 http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/IMG_0954.JPG width=480 "Bears" is one of the most over-asked "sky is falling" questions on camping websites. Wouldn't surprise me, though, if meteorite strikes on campers are more common than bear problems. ;) Nope, I don't worry about meteorites. And I recall there is one (1) campground at Yellowstone with a bear "issue." I don't count a bear walking thru a campsite as an issue. -- Chuck

RE: Do I want this for Christmas

The Level Air Bags were "store bought" before the patent fight. They just completed their 5th season. There should be a Bill of Materials and instructions to make them here. Search Level Air or similar. -- Chuck

RE: Roo converter location

Then the GFI outlet in the bathroom is the next suspect. Assuming you're getting shorepower into the trailer. You can check the AC circuits at the buss and individual breakers. Just remove a few captive screws and the whole front comes off. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/IMG_0945.JPG width=640 -- Chuck

RE: Roo converter location

AC breakers are on the left; DC fuses on the right. All my 110v outlets in my Roo 23SS are on the same circuit breaker. If I run an electric space heater and then flip on the coffee maker I'll trip the breaker. The breaker is marked GFI in my box and is the third one from the top (top 15a breaker). -- Chuck

This panel usually has a bright yellow sticker on it and is "hard to miss!" ;) http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/IMG_0406.JPG width=640 Often (or perhaps usually) under the refrigerator. That's ours with the cover open and the sticker moved inside so it's not so glaring. -- Chuck

RE: Do I want this for Christmas

The Flo-Jet is only useful if you want to pump your waste some distance. I use it at home to pump the tanks into a toilet in the hall off the garage. Not even the city can find my sanitary sewer clean-out on the lawn. As far as using at a campground or a conventional dump site? Not needed. We camp at state parks the vast majority of the time. With Flo-Jet I just drive home on Sunday. No hour long wait at the dump site while guys dump, back-flush, etc. I don't dump our black tank unless it's 2/3 full or greater and it's easy to dump on the way INto the next state park. But when the tanks need to be dumped at home the Flo-Jet is very convenient. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/FCVYA-IMG_0931.JPG width=240 http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/MHGTP-IMG_0930.JPG width=320 On full service campsites I use the Sewer Solution. No 3" stinky slinky to trip over. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/892154/Sewer.jpg width=480 -- Chuck

RE: Help, I'm doing this Mod Now (Hunter Thermostat)

The Comfort Control Center appears to be fancy wall thermostat designed for multiple AC units like the big motorhomes and 5th wheels. If your Blast-from-the-Center AC just has a dial like your truck with a numbered or red-to-blue scale it needs internal modifications to work off a wall thermostat. I've not paid too much attention to them but recall they have relays inside and require running wires to the wall thermostat. -- Chuck

RE: 2001 Jayco Kiwi 23b Floor Replacement

We used to use stuff called "Git Rot" on wooden boats or for the wood forms in Fiberglas boats. Herr Weasel had listed a link for modern stuff doing the same thing. -- Chuck

RE: 2001 Jayco Kiwi 23b Floor Replacement

Not sure if the walls mount on top of the floors, but you're going to have to remove all the cabinets to determine this and, no doubt, to replace the floor. Jayco should be able to help. Perhaps with some construction diagrams, etc. I'd be calling them if this was my trailer and asking for technical assistance. Know your VIN when you call. You need to indicate to them that you're hours from any Jayco dealer and need assistance to get this repaired locally. -- Chuck

RE: Snow load limit

Cargo Carrying Capacity and Axle Ratings do not apply to static loads, only "rolling loads." Within reason, of course. The tires can't heat up with any overload as they're not rolling. Suspensions may compress, but they'll reach their stops and aren't bouncing up and down. From some posts you'd think there's a danger of damage having several people in the trailer when camping as they might push you over the CCC. Ain't so. Putting an extra two tons in (or on) the trailer is not good practice. -- Chuck

RE: 09' Shamrock 21ss or 10' Roo 21ss

Mountains between Lakeview and Kissimee? OK, baby mountains, maybe, between Knoxville and Chattanooga. But mountains to Florida folks I expect. :) Interstate highway grades don't exceed 6% anywhere. Steepest part of the drive is probably the pull out of the Ohio River at Covington. Also not sure why one would take a 1000 mile detour. Road distance from Lakeview to Kissimee is 1030 miles for a round trip of 2060. Where'd the extra 2000 miles came from? ;) Figure on 1000 miles at 20mpg to get up there. That will burn 50 gallons of fuel at $2.50. $125. Figure 10mpg on the way home so that'll cost an additional $250. Grand total of $375 in fuel. Time is the major consideration going to get the trailer, not money. Figure on two days up, a day there, and two days back. Motel on the way up, state parks on the way back. I only drove 3 hours and 150 miles to save $4000 at RVWholesalers. But five days of my time is worth at least $3000, the net savings after travel expenses. Don't worry about wear and tear on the trailer. It'll get to Kissimee on it's own wheels regardless of who tows it. I think I'm probably more concerned in getting my trailer to a destination than a contract driver. -- Chuck

RE: Snow load limit

The axle and cargo carrying carrying capacities are not applicable when the trailer is stationary, only while it is on the road. -- Chuck

RE: Rockwood Roo 23ss Towing with Ford Explorer

This will work just fine. There is usually a large caution label on this type of sway control to disengage it before backing. But you're only making a couple of trips annually. -- Chuck

RE: Snow load limit

The load spreads out evenly, but is still significant. Don't put your stabilizers down as the snow weight can damage them as the suspension compresses from the extra weight, especially if your tires lose pressure throughout the winter. A good rule of thumb for snow weight is 1 pound per inch of depth per square foot. My Roo roof is approximately 8' x 20' or 160 square feet. An inch of snow will add 160 pounds to the roof. No big deal. A foot of snow, however, will add a ton (!) of snow! (OK, 1920 pounds, but this is rule of thumb!) At one ton per foot of snow you really need to remove it if it starts to get deep. Very wet snow will be much heavier. The main danger from this snow is early and late snowfalls. We had severe damage to our boat cover frame and the branches were all stripped off one of my backyard flowering trees 20 years ago or so, but these are rare occurrences. -- Chuck
