RE: Trip Report: a man, his dog, fly rod and TC in the Sierras

Thanks for the report. Awesome pictures. You were lucky with your spill, that always is a concern of mine when I'm solo fly fishing. I just returned from a long weekend on Wilson Creek. You did much better than I did! I reeled in ZERO trout. But you know what? I had a wonderful time. Looks like you and your pal did too!

RE: I95 Places to Avoid

There is only one section of I-95 that I don't like driving on, it's the section between Miami, Florida and Boston, Mass.
Actually, I travel extensively on I-95 in North & South Carolina. There are a few miles of bumps, but overall, not too bad.

RE: flat tire

1. can I use different brand tires? I don't think it make a diffrence..You can use any ST tire of the same size and construction. i.e. radial
2. why is tt doesn't come with jack and wheel lug nut wrench like cars?
Because a jack and lug wrench cost money which the RV manufactuers do not want to pay. Many don't even come with a spare tire. Buy a hydraulic bottle jack large enough for your TT, maybe like a 6 Ton. Harbor Freight has them cheap. Also, pick up a 4 way lug wrench.
3. I tried to talk to dealer and keystone directly requesting new wheel lug nuts (6 of them) and denied, even though the manual say ues 7/8. The service dept. says use 13/16. Why not try both sizes and see which fits? Seems if the dealer is removing and installing lug nuts, they would know what size. Having a 4 way lug wrench covers all your bases.
4. this kind siuation what would u recommends? fixing yourself or emergency road service by insurance co? (found out later i could)
If you don't mind changing a tire, go for it. Me, I'm too old and lazy so I'll let my road service do it for me.
5. Do you check tire wheel lug nuts torque pressure often? (manual says so,, but most cars we don't and i don't want to touch them again
They would like you to check your lug nuts before each trip, and at a certain mileage interval. I have a $20 torque wrench for that purpose. It's probably a wise thing to do, or so they say.

5 Days and counting

Only 5 more days and I'll be sitting next to this babbling brook in my campsite or standing in the babbling brook with a fly rod in my hand and a smile on my face. It's been a while and I don't remember was a brook sounds like when it babbles....but I'll know in 5 days!

RE: Help?!

Did you buy it from Camping World in Colfax? I thought they had some good RV techs there...I was told.
I'm not familer with your switch locations, but if it is accessable through the front basement door, check the quality of the connections at the switch. Try to wiggle the connector & harness while someone pushes the button(s). Did anything happen when you disconnected the shore power and disconnected the 12V battery for a few minutes?

RE: Flat tire

I like the idea of hitching it to the TV before jacking it up. That way it doesn't put a stress on the landing gear.
As mentioned, place the jack under the spring perch. I've also placed it on the pivot between front and rear spring. Don't place it on the axle and DO position it under something that's flat.
Break loose the lug nuts before raising the trailer.
Check the torque of the lug nuts after you tow it a bit to make sure they're still there.

I helped an RVer in need, just a little

I was cruising down I-20 heading home from Columbia when I came across an older fiver sitting along side the road with its flashers on and a blown left front tire on the trailer. Being a nice guy, I thought I'd stop and offer moral support, or whatever.
Found a young couple that had borrowed his Father's fiver & TV and was heading to Myrtle Beach for the weekend. He'd never changed a trailer tire before and seemed a little concerned.
He found a 6T jack in the bed's toolbox and found a lug wrench under the hood. The lug wrench is mounted on top of the radiator so when he removed it, he realized that it was very very hot. After I cooled it off with a water bottle, he went to work. He didn't know exactly where to place the jack so I grabbed a piece of 2X6 out of the TV's bed and guided the jack's placement. After removing the spare tire from the trailer's bumper, he broke the lug nuts loose and proceeded to remove the blown tire. Piece of case, now. It was going to start raining soon so I bid the couple farewell and hit the road.
I made it 10 miles down the road and the sky opened up. I hope he was able to finish before the rain made it to them. I also hope they have a good weekend in Myrtle Beach.

I got duped

I was at a Flying J fueling up my company car when I saw a RAM 1500 with big tires pull into the RV island towing a 39' Cedar Creek fiver!
Being that I tow my Columbus 320RS fiver with a RAM 2500 CTD, I couldn't believe this person dared to tow a huge fiver with a 1500!
I walked over after I was finished and started to laugh. The guy had stuck "1500" emblems where the 3500 emblems once were. He also removed the "Cummins" emblem. The 4" tail pipe and the diesel fuel hose stuck in the side of the truck gave it away.
I started talking to the guy who said it was an excellent way to strike up conversations with other people. We had a good laugh.
It worked for me.

RE: Thank you the comment about having recliners opposite the TV

My previous fiver had a couch and 2 Euro recliners 90 Degrees from the TV. Didn't think much about it until we got our present fiver. There's two Ashley leather recliners directly across from the 42" LED flat screen. Much better layout.

RE: Any opinions on the Sabre 33RETS-6?

We had a 2007 Sabre 32RKTS for 4 years. It was a great trailer. As mentioned, a lot of bang for the buck. Well built, solid, and very good customer support from the factory. It had a lot of standard features and construction features that were impressive.
We traded for a Palomino Columbus. A little more upscale and larger floor plan.
Good luck.

RE: New here. Need help with washing/detailing TT

Do not use dishwashing liquid. It's meant for dishes, pots, & pans...NOT your trailer or car.
As mentioned, use a good automotive car wash soap. A soft car wash brush on a pole makes it easier.
As for the black streaks, there are a number of products on the market specifically for that, if the car wash soap and brush don't do the trick.
Any quality car wax or cleaner wax will work, too. Use whatever you use on your car or truck.
Have fun.

RE: Just dreaming but have questions

STOP!!
I wouldn't believe RVW's weight rating, they didn't make the trailer, they just want to sell it to you.
According to the link you provided, that fiver has an empty weight of 8850#. If its GVWR is 13,896, that means its carrying capacity is over 5,000#!! I don't think so.
Get the weight ratings from Forest River or actually look at the trailer.
If the specs are correct in the link you provided, then your F250 can probably handle it.
But get the correct figures, first!!

RE: North Carolina west from Charlotte

Here's a place I highly recommend.(but don't tell anyone)
You're right on the creek; there's rapids and bike paths, great trout fishing. It's isolated, quiet, beautiful area, and the owners are awesome. It's about 70 miles North-North West of Charlotte.

RE: bilstein vs Monroe RV shocks

I installed HD Monroes on the front of my RAM 2500. They are too soft. When I am towing and come to a stop, the front end bounces up and down. Same when driving down the road, the front end floats.
I should have gone with the Bilsteins. I had them on my previous truck and they worked well. I was too cheap, I mean frugal, no I mean cheap at the time.

RE: musky smell from air conditioner

I suggest removing the A/C cover and checking for wet, rotten leaves.
After doing this, you might consider removing the sponge looking filter covering the intake and wash it.
Then turn on the AC and spray the intake with Lysol spray.
