RE: Health Insurance

Understand the problem about pre existing conditions. But Then I think about the insurance companies. Why would they sell you insurance for something you already have? Think about it. Wouldn't that kind of be like getting insurance on a car AFTER the accident? Whay would they sell you insurance for say $200.00 per month, When the know you need $300.00 per month in drugs? Not going to stay in business long that way. Just a thought I had. Don't have many so be kind. You can buy car insurance even though you have a history of accidents and speeding tickets and you can buy fire insurance if you have had three houses have burn down, so why can't you buy health insurance if you have non terminal, non life threatening pre existing conditions??There are major differences. First, fires and wrecks are independent events, having one does not necessarily result in additional ones. Have diabetes and you are much more likely to have continuing health related expenses. Second some pre existing conditions come with continuing expenses. You may need anti rejections drugs forever if you have had a heart transplant. Surely you wouldn't expect the new health insurer to cover those expenses. Y. Coverage for people who have had speeding tickets and wrecks is hard to get and is extremely expensive. Health Insurance is the same way, be willing to pay the premium and you can get coverage for pre existing conditions. You will have to search for a carrier, but it is available. Most agents and carriers just say no, because they know there is no way an average person could pay the premium. I must respectfully disagree, health insurance is not handled the same way, you can buy car insurance at a price, regardless of your history....because states mandate it. If it wasn't mandated, there would be a HUGH number of people on the road without car insurance. Granted there are plenty who drive without anyway. There will always be people who abuse the system no matter what. You cannot always buy health insurance at any price because it is not mandated by states like car insurance. Some states allow insurance companies to exclude people with pre-existing conditions that are as simple as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes even if they are controlled. If someone suffers from something like depression then all bets are off. The financial burden especially for those with serious mental illness' ends up ultimately on the tax payer. Untreated mental illness is the main cause for homelessness, not laziness. I don't claim to have the answers and I am not promoting an agenda for one side or the other. I simply want to clear up the misconception that you can buy health insurance if you want it, because that is not the case.

RE: Health Insurance

For those of us who are self employed we share the pain. I know my wife keeps her foot in the door as a nurse just so we can keep her insurance. Because of what most people would consider minor pre-existing conditions, we cannot get insurance on our own at any price. We would like to retire early but cannot without health insurance. I would love to see an answer to this problem that so many of us are experiencing.

RE: Police cars

All the new units from the big three are in response to Carbon Motors who plan on being on-line in 2012. They bought a Visteon plant about 30 miles from me and are in the process of putting the plant together. The new car will be a turbo diesel with a top speed of 155 mph. This is a all new police vehicle from the ground up and not a revamped passenger car. Carbon claim to have 20000 units on order for when prducton begins. Some of the features are: •Fuel efficient 300 horsepower, 420 lb-ft of torque clean turbodiesel engine •Vehicle life durability specification of 250,000 miles •Ergonomically designed cockpit, built with duty gear and the job in mind •Carbon’s proprietary On-board Rapid Command Architecture™(ORCA™) •Radiation, chemical and biological threat detection •360° exterior surveillance audio and video capability •180° interior rear compartment audio and video capability •Available automatic license plate recognition system •Optional integrated ballistic protection

RE: Pigeon Forge traffic between Dec. 27 and Jan.3

Weekend it will be horrible. Weekdays tolerable. We just came through there yesterday and traffic was bumper to bumper. Friday and Saturday eve it is a parking lot. Stopped at an outlet and there was a Coach store that had a line to get in the store, they actualy was limiting the number of people allowed in the store. There is no recession in Pigeon Forge.

RE: Indiana Flying J Fuel Price

RTFQ in military speak means "Read the Freeking Question" Indiana and a few other states have add-ons to their fuel prices and not just on diesel. Road tax, sales tax of up to 6%, then credit card tax. A good example is a posted price of $2.80 per gal. Fifty gals runs $140 plus 6% sales tax and you're up to $148.40 ($2.969). Add another one of two percent for credit card usage and you're up to $151.37. They add the credit card charges at the end. Bottom line figure is up to almost $3.029 some 23¢ a gal higher than posted at the pump. It's been that way every since I can remember. Another reason I put a long range tank in my truck. There is a website which I don't have available in front of me, that gives the details of all the states tax charges. This include sales and road tax. I don't have a clue what your are talking about with a credit card fee and other fees listed above. I have lived in Indiana for 40 years, always use a card and have never seen a credit surcharge. There are a few (very few) cash discounts but card companies do not permit credit surcharges. With the exception of exempt diesel, the posted pump price is what you pay in Indiana. At one time sales tax was added later but that was YEARS ago.

RE: sewer clean out at new house

Go for it and have one installed. I have a "clean out" at the edge of my circular driveway so it is very easy to dump. I never thought about a neighbor complaining because I dump it down the drain-not in the yard!! I guess if you have a neighbor who would complain.....you are going to have a heap of other issues with the neighbor!!!!!!!!!

RE: Allergy Question

Mold and tree pollen is a big deal to me. I take weekly allergy shots. We moved to a hard sided trailer and it has made camping less of an alergy issue.

RE: Bike rack for front of TT

I bought the top pop rails after failing to come up with a better solution. The one I bought also can transfer to the truck as a hitch mount rack. It is a wonderfull rack and I found the company very informative and easy to work with.

If you both have a Kindle do you have to buy a book twice or can you still share the same title on two readers?

RE: Life without an air compressor.....don't get it

I haven't seen "Motorcycle dryer" listed as a compressor use. The compressed air is great to get all the water, dust and dirt out of all the nooks and crannies of a motorcycle.

RE: Yellow Pages Question

I still use the one from the phone company. All the others use a lot of second hand info. Some of the worst listings are the internet listings. My business gets calls from people everyday from internet listings that are incorrect. There is absolutley no way a business can afford to pay for a correct listing in every internet or published directory. Those you don't pay for either omit you completely or "borrow" the info from another source that may have "borrowed" it from another source and so on and so on.... I frequently get calls who think we are a dentist office, an attorney(most frequent error), a bank, a food bank, and a dental lab, Bank of America and Legal Zoom.com. These are all frequent errors and when we have tried to find the source of the bad listing, it is always an off name phone book or the internet.

RE: Good Sam Visa

These companies are looking for a reason to go out of business. My wife carried a HSBC card for years and has spotless credit and had the same thing happen as the original poster. The check was posted the same day as due but after 8AM. She was nailed with a $39.00 late fee and they cut her credit limit from $18,000 to $1,200. What they didn't consider is that I had one of their cards that I use in my business and charge over 40K a year on it-No Longer!!! They alienated her and lost me just because they held her payment to get that $39 late fee.

RE: WInterizing with the pink stuff?

I bought a connector with hose barb that will fit my pump and a section of hose for about 10 bucks. The connector on the inlet side of the pump can be removed and replaced with the connector with the hose. Place the free end of the hose in the anti-freeze jug and turn on the pump. Run each faucet until the flow is solid pink. Don't forget to close the water heater by-pass valve and drain the water heater and don't forget to run the outdoor shower. You should also open the low-point valves until they run pink. When done, reconnect the existing inlet connector and pour some pink stuff in the drain traps. My trailer takes two gallons and 20 minutes to do the entire job.

RE: SUV and hybrid trailers

We towed our 19' hybrid with a V6 GMC Jimmy and traded up to a 5.3 V8 full sized pickup and gained 2mpg non towing and 4 mpg towing. The V6 many times is not the best engine choice.

RE: Pricing Aged Inventory

While we love to think that a leftover RV is worth less than a brand spank'in new one off the line, fact of the matter is the unit is still new. If the dealer paid 12K for it last year, guess what?? It still cost him 12K!! While he may be more willing to take a lower margin to move an aged unit, it is unlikely that he will take a loss when he can sell it as new, finance it as new, and offer a warranty as new You're looking at it from the dealer point of view. The buyer needs to consider the depreciated value of a unsold 3 year old model camper versus the value of the current model year. ryoung You are absolutly right. However, since the dealer makes the deal, what other point of view really matters?? The dealer will not order another unit with the same floor plan until he moves the aged unit. You can always go elsewhere but the bottom line is he will sell the unit for what he wants to sell it for. No, that is not the bottom-line unless the dealer is the buyer. I guess I don't understand. How do you suggest changing the mind of a dealer who won't sell it for what you want to pay for it, other than going somewhere else?????????
