RE: Made winterizing a one person job

I got my all in one air quick disconnect to threaded brass fitting at Home Depot - common part for blowing out sprinkler systems.

RE: Made winterizing a one person job

Since I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy, I use a brass threaded fitting with an air chuck in the city inlet. Compressor regulator set to 20 psi, connect the air hose and open the faucets. Then I pump antifreeze thru the system, and takes less than 2 gallons. I like this since I get very little water in the mix, and bright pink antifreeze out of the faucets quickly.

RE: Water leaks in Cab Floor

you may also want to check out and post this on the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum: http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php in the appropriate topic area - lots of very knowledgeable folks over there, as well. Something in the back of my brain is niggling me with "hood cowl vent" but that might just be the nagging reminder that I have yet to fix the leak in my Jeep ... Greg

RE: My camper is disappearing

we only have 20" here in Golden/Arvada this morning ... you guys are supposed to keep this stuff up there in the mountains! C'mon, get with the program, ok? :) My kid is so bummed - school's closed for snow and he can't go boarding. Yeah, we're the mean parents.

RE: Are there quality RVs that will last?

Hmmm, my '83 Tioga is still going strong. How long do you want one to last?

RE: Cabover rebuild and Memory Roads...here we go!

nice find! yep! ... unfortunately I glued up the new panels before realizing I needed to position the welting under an edge... now looking for some time of quarter round or other finish that will go up without nails.

RE: Cabover rebuild and Memory Roads...here we go!

I'm still unhappy about the corner trim on my interior wall to ceiling panels after my rebuild. What are you using (or did use) and how satisfied are you with it? I've not got to the interior yet, Gkainz. I plan to use some wood trim, but I've not got to that stage yet. I just want to get her back to "usable" for winter skiing first. I'd welcome any suggestions! mine originally had a round welting with a flat flap that slipped under one panel and covered the joints. I didn't find anything like that when I put the interior back in. I noticed the newer coaches had a flat vinyl 90* angle strip, bent to either an inside 90 or outside 90, depending on what was being covered. I tried the self-adhesive tub caulking strips, with bad results. The goop on the back is the stickiest stuff I've grabbed outside of Eternabond, but after a week or so of hot/cold/hot cycles in the rig, it all sagged and/or fell off. Of course, then I can hardly peel it off of whatever it fell on. I thought about all kinds of household wood or plastic quarter-round, but I have steel framing, so nailing it up isn't going to work. Anyone else have ideas for this little bit of finish trim?

RE: New Chassis Player in the C World?

Yep - it's on the news wires ... quick google search for dodge fiat truck split shows a number of hits - here's one from MotorTrend: http://tinyurl.com/yalqwsq

RE: Internet window shopping for TCs

Thanks, Buggsy. Don't know about the weight specifics yet - seller just said in his email "book says weight is 1910 empty". I rebuilt my C cabover, so I think I have a pretty good idea what to look for, and still have butyl tape from that job (resealed all the windows) if I have to reseal any windows. Hmmm, I wonder what the shelf life is on buytl tape? I thought about eliminating my front windows in my Tioga. Wish I would have now (no leaks, but that would have been the time to eliminate more leak sources). If I end up having to rebuild a TC, that will be an item I do.

RE: Internet window shopping for TCs

Anything rougher, narrower, steeper or off-camber will be traveled with the Jeep or ATVs in tow. ....well then, that seals it: a hard-side is perfect :B Why would you go with a truck camper as old as that ??? What price range are you looking in? Silver- 'cause I'm a cheap SOB? ;) under $10k, and $5k would be better. Seriously, must be a personality twist ... , my truck is a '97, my Jeep is a '95, my Tioga is an '83, my snowmobiles are '80 and '81 ... my guns are 20 to 100 years ... :)

Internet window shopping for TCs

Instead of continuing the Bigfoot thread, I thought I would toss out a new one as I window shop for a TC to replace my '83 Tioga 26' C. My primary use for the TC would be hunting, fishing, ATV and snowmobile trips. Off-roading will be limited to Forest Service roads. Anything rougher, narrower, steeper or off-camber will be traveled with the Jeep or ATVs in tow. I have a Dodge Ram 2500 CTD 4x4 long bed. I've wrastled with hardside vs pop-up for a couple of years now and continually find myself landing on the hardside of the argument. I do understand the benefits of lower height, lower CG, etc of the pop-up and that's what makes the decision so much less clear-cut than I had hoped. I just continue to fall back on the perception that I want something that "sort of feels like my C inside". Anyway, the latest find is a 1998 Jayco 9.6 - seller says the book weight is 1910 empty. Hope to get to look at it this weekend. Thoughts? feedback? Experiences with the Jayco line of TCs? Thanks! Greg

RE: 2003 Bigfoot 25C96E

the 2003 Bigfoot Brochure lists the 25c9.6 as having a base dry weight of 2370 ---- thats before ac, generator & ect! Thanks! Since it's at a Dealer, the salesman will say "You can haul that! No problem! Trust me!" ;)

RE: 2003 Bigfoot 25C96E

I'm not one who believes the lawyer-induced door sticker is the final word, and understand the load capacities and suspension upgrade options. Already have load range E tires... I can't find a weight for this model online yet and the dealer is closed on Mondays. Is this model one that could cause me problems with tailgate opening width issues on my truck? I measured it once last year when window (ok Firefox) shopping ... but of course, didn't write it down or even remember what the width is. Greg edit - I think I have the tailgate opening issue backwards in my mind... the problem is newer trucks are narrower than the wider old campers, right?

RE: Snow Camping?

Mine's spoiled too - it stays in my hangar in the winter when not in use, so I never winterize it and it's always ready for use. - Clay So what gets kicked out of the hangar when the camper's in there? :) I just bought into a club that owns a Dakota, a Saratoga and a Bonanza - loving it!
