I am currently looking to buy my first Diesel and I am looking at GMC with the Duramax or Dodge 6.7L/manual Tranny.

I am concerned about mileage on the Cummins and am wonder if anyone know what I should expect from it in a 2500 Mega Cab 4x4.

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide

I own a new 6.7 quad cab Dodge with manual tranny. I have about 1400 miles on it now and recently performed a fuel consumption test. It came out to about 13 MPG, mostly around town with some hill climbing included. I had expected more but realize the truck isn't broken in yet, so I expect the mileage to go up somewhat. It probably won't be as good as the previous 5.9 liter engine because of all the emissions stuff that's been added but that's the cost of new technology.

I'm sure it will get better after break-in. Bu t you always hear horror stories of diesels never getting above 12mpg empty and the you hear to other end like 26 or 28 mpg empty....it's hard to say who is telling the truth.

I have a 2006 2500HD Quad cab Silverado with the 6.6 Duramax I average about 19.8 miles to the gallon highway empty. Still new only 6600 miles so I am expecting much better when she gets broke in.

Apparently from what I’ve seen the 5.9 is getting a whole lot better fuel mileage.

Use the old tried/true calculator for actual rather than the overheads which are somewhat otomistic. More miles, better milage. On mine (Dodge) at 50K) it jumped up about two more mpg or so.JMHO

That would be optomistic, not otomistic. Slow brain, fast finger.

I have a 5.9 and I get about 22-24 MPG mixed highway/city without pulling. When I pull my trailer I get about 15 MPG, but the country here is quite hilly and I have not towed on relatively flat land. I dont think I would go to a 6.7 though as we use the truck too much as a second vehicle.

I have 8300 on my 6.7 and while towing 4500 miles to and from Yellowstone I was getting 10-11 with my 11K 5th wheel. Empty I am getting 15-17 mixed and was getting 12-14 new so the milage is helping. I'm not sure if it will be as good as my 04 5.9 which was 19-22 but I do love this new truck and the new trans/EB is a must have for towing in the mountains I have found out.
