I've been reading all over on this recall and have one (hopefully) simple question. I am getting the recall performed next week, which is really a band aid as we all know. I wish to use my own money and make necessary upgrades to prevent the problem. The question is:

Is there an improved burner and or other pieces that I can buy to have replaced at the same time as the recall, if so does anyone have part numbers of such parts?

Seems like some are using lower wattage burners. What are they doing in new refers..can I apply those upgrades to mine? I don't mind spending the money to keep my family safe...and to prevent a multi thousand dollar refer replacement later!

Thanks.

Other than replacing your cooling unit (around 900 bucks) there is nothing else. It's all based upon a crack developing in the tube itself. If you change your heater element, it won't cool as well and you'll be setting the temp to the highest setting.

I have a 2007 Rockwood and got the recall a cuple of months ago. Called my local RV repair center (Affordable RV Repair)in Cameron Park, CA and the tech drove out to where I store my TT and fixed it in about 1/2 hour. While he was there, he also repaired the TT stored next to mine. Very quick courteous service. No complaints here.

Just had mine done on my '99 Layton. Had a heck of a time going back and forth with Dometic because the list of places that they said would do the recall work was worthless. The places either didn't exist or told me they didn't do the recall work. Dometic would not authorize a mobile RV service to come to my place either. After a couple of phone calls to Dometic and multiple calls trying to find a repair place, I finally found a mobile repair service that wasn't too far from my home (not in the city that Dometic listed it in, by the way) which allowed me to haul it to their location for the recall work to be done, so I wouldn't have to pay the service fee. They don't own a shop, so I was parked out in the street, but the work only took about 40 minutes and I was on my way.
I was not overly happy with how Dometic handled my case, but in the end I did get the recall work done and was very happy with the company that did the work.

Me being a novice RV owner, Steve, the technician, was very patient and helpful in answering my questions and concerns and more than willing the answer questions I had about other things not related to the refrigerator.

Also, he made sure to test the fridge after the work was done to make sure it worked without me having to ask.

Had my recall done. I am at a seasonal site and Dometic paid for the service call so I didn't even have to move my trailer.

I have performed many of the recalls and Dometic has so far only denied one service(trip) charge. If you call Dometic and let them know that your trailer is a fixed sight and can't be moved, they will usually pay. Don't tell them your tires are off, cuz you can install them to move it. Don't tell them it's a seasonal, cuz the when the season is over, you can get it done then.

Thanks for the sticky. I just bought a used 2007 trailer and my fridge was on the list. I called up the local RV place and took it in last Thursday and they called me this evening and let me know it was ready. No charge.
