Can anyone tell me about camping & ATV riding at Lake Murray State Park in OK? I understand that there are a lot of different camping areas in the park. Can you ride your 4 wheeler to the riding area or is there a camping area with hook ups where you can ride to the area designated?

Also, how much riding is there?

Looking for info before we go. Thanks.

We rode at Lake Murrey a couple of years ago. The ATV area is not at the main State Park area, it is on the North side of the lake. I believe like the State Park, campsites are first-come-first-served. There are camp sites with full hookups. You can ride your ATV from the campsites to the riding area. I believe their WEB site says there is 1000 acres of riding area. It costs us $7 a day (24 hr.)per person to ride. There are lots of trails, mud holes, hills, swampy areas. We had a blast, especially on the night rides.
Here is a link with directions to the Pear Orchard Motorcycle Use Area, as it is called.

Great place to ride. I use to live 45 miles from there. The best part is you ride by the lake and so when you get hot from pulling yourself from a giant hole by yourself without a winch (not that I have experience) you can jump in and take a swim. If I am not mistaken it is a natural lake and the bottom is quite deep in many spots. This helps keep the water very clear. The last time I was there, I could see my feet while treading water. Most lakes in Ok are not like that.

Sounds great. A few of us are going at the end of June. Do they have cabins in the ATV campground?

Anything else really good there?

No cabins, at least none when I was there two years ago.

You can only ride from camp to the trails from one camp ground, located next to the trails. The other camp grounds are way to far away to ride from camp. There is a big paved parking area for day users at the trail head. You prolly won't get a spot at the trail head camp ground,it is always crowded. Don't plan on two up riding,it is illegal on public land in Oklahoma. Post up if you have more questions.

Thanks for the info. When did OK stop allowing riding doubles? Do you know the rules on Rhino side by sides whith the role cage & rear kids seats? They even have seat belts in them.

How close to they check things like riding doubles?

We were planning on getting to the campground on Wed... thought that would give us a chance to get 2 spots in the ATV camground.

What's a good back up spot to camp at lake murray. We'll have a lot of younger kids with our group and it sounds like they won't be able to put put around on 4 wheelers with us.

You might get a spot on wed. OK stopped allowing two up in Nov. of 2007.

Elephet Rock camp ground is the one I would pick if I could not stay at the trailhead camp ground.

I can not help you with the Rhino questions,I have no experience with one.

Thanks ABin. We'll have to see what how it goes. Looks like a beautiful place either way and we'll have a good time. Just wish I could take my kids riding.

I'll check out Elephant rock too. We may just see if we can get some place on the water or near a swimming area since the kids can't ride with me.
