What exactly does "side by side hookups" mean? No one, not even campground personnel have been able to explain.

It sounds like two campsites designed to have two RVs face different directions so that their awnings and front doors can face each other.

If thats not what it means - then I have no idea.

A phone call to the campground should solve you problem. I was thinking of sites with units side by side along the hookups and the doors facing the opposite direction.

These are also called "Buddy Sites" in some CG's and it is when folks are traveling together and want to camp with awning to awning. If in doubt call the CG to be sure.

Everyone is right...Side by side could mean that you will be awning to awning with someone or it could mean that you will be back to back with someone. Awning to awning allows you to buddy camp with someone and not have to run around one of the campers to get inside, back to back allows you to have a yard twice as big since there is no room between you and the person behind you. I have seen both setups so you would have to call the specific campground to see what their interpretation is of this idea.

We try to avoid "side by side" hook up sites unless we are camping with close friends, because you will be very close to your neighbor. Sewer hose location can be "interesting" with this configuration.

Side by side means facing back to back and the site in front of you faces you. It's a great thing if you're camping with family or friends and can get the two facing each other.
