Just got back from going out to dinner after a long hard day in the sun working on the trailers.
My Bud brought over his WWLE3505 and I had my LE3905.
His is a couple years older than mine. After we washed his (specifically the roof) we got the caulking out and started going to town on the roof. Used the self-leveling on the roof. Found a spot in the front where the cap had pulled away from the roof leaving a gap on the left corner. If you put a good amount of weight on it you could hear just a little cracking so, I'm sure there was at least some damage under there. We scraped off all the old caulking from there and from the rear of the trailer and re-did it all. I have no doubt that had this gone through the winter this way, he would have not only had wood-rot but, probably would have had water INSIDE his trailer.
We then went to work on the sides of the trailer. He had a number of areas where the caulking had heated-up (sun) and sagged. We used some plastic scrapers and cleaned it all up and actually took away more than we needed to since we were planning on re-doing it with new (NON-leveling) Lap Sealant. The caulking he had was all black and honestly, it looked like crap. It is now totally different. All white and purdy.
Oh, there was also a gap in one of his side windows. It was near 1/4"+++ of a gap. . . almost looked like the window had fallen down in the hole or that the hole was cut too big or something. We caulked it up real good and all should be good now.
On my trailer, the big task of the day was the rear ramp. We got the leno (grey stuff with the circle dots on it pattern) on the cargo floor area and the rear ramp and over time, it has pulled away from the rear ramp and there was always about 2' of leno that would flop over when the door was up. We striped off the sticky stuff and had to get the sand/dirt off. . . Wife did a great job on this. I bought some Alum. strip material at a local supplier and we put it on along with a fresh layor of 3m Spray Adhesive. Hopefully we won't have any more issues.
So, that's about all we did today! It is amazing how much time you can spend just taking care of the rigs but, it is satisfying to know the rig has been taken care of and you know the quality of the work done is better than any shop would have done.

Unloaded the fishing stuff from the summer, and loaded the desert stuff for the winter. Pulled the batteries, cleaned the terminals, replaced a terminal eye connector on one of the wires, exercised the generator, cleaned and lubed the drive chains on the quads, started both quads, put on the new green stickers.
I re-did the roof sealant a couple of months ago - the crunching you heard was probably dry-rotted already. Mine was. Time consuming job to fix, but not really to tough.

Yeh, I'm sure he has a little bit of rot in there. It didn't seem too bad so, we didn't pull the roof back to repair the wood. I haven't done that job yet. It doesn't look that tough, probably just more time consuming than anything. We'll keep an eye on that part of the roof. If it becomes softer then we'll have to do it at that point.
I can't believe how much nicer his trailer looks.
I'm sure most that get on this forum take care of their trailers but, I'm sure we all have a group of friends that do NOT get on the forums and they may not know how bad their trailers can get if they don't take care of them. The roof may be good but, the seams can go bad quickly and really cause a lot of damage.

You are right about trailer maintenance taking up time.
Especially keeping the roof clean and sealed ..... I have become a believer in Eternabond tape for roof cap seams and other places to get rid of the quarterly trips to the roof to inspect the lap sealant. Also, have graduated to using marine sealants due to their better flexibility, better adhesion, and better lifetime over Dicor lap sealants.

mapguy,
Care to share which marine sealants you are using? Friend of mine neglected the roof on his Fun Mover for the last 4 years and was hit with some pretty bad leaks with the passing storms here in the NE.
Also has anyone ever applied Eternabond over existing lap sealant with good results? Out of the offerings from Eternabond which one do most people use?
Thanks.

3M 4000UV for cosmetic/sunlight areas. Medium strength bonding sealant. Tools with water but is not silicone based.
I use 6" White Roof Seal Eternabond. Got it from my local roofing supply house. This trailer I put the Eternabond on the front / rear roof cap seams and lap sealant when almost new as the factory applied lap sealant was poorly done and needed extensive touch-up right away. Up here in Seattle area -having to do lap sealant touch up ever 3-6 months is difficult due to the lack of dry days during the winter.....

Oh. . . used the 3M Adhesive Remover for the ramp to clean up the leno. . . that stuff works great! Once it was removed, used 3M Super 77 Spray Adhesive to stick it back down. Worked great!
