Any good places an hour or two outside of Los Angeles? I want seclusion and a good place to ride quads. I've already done Mojave but when you wake up on Saturday morning, it looks like a Disneyland parking lot. I have smaller kids and would like to have the entire area to ourselves for once. One or 2 nights max since it is school and football season. I would like to hit the beach areas before it gets too cold but those places are always crowded. If it is a "Secret" spot and you would not mind sharing with a 5 person family, PM me to keep it under wraps. Looking at all the boondocking pics in this forum has got my motor running to get out again. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I haven't been here, but this might be what you want: Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area

I'd be interested to read comments from other who have camped there.

Here's more.

The above link to CA OHV resources is great, be sure to scroll down to check out the Other OHV Area links to BLM and National Forest areas. We stayed at the Chuchupate campground near Frazier park at the end of July and almost had the place to ourselves. Cost was $5/day for the daily forest pass, or nothing if you have the yearly. A few ATVs drove by on the NF road which I believe connects through to Hungry Valley.

I have also stayed at Jawbone Canyon in BLM land. While there were some people, the area was huge and was a lot of fun.
