In the process of shopping for RV's, I've come across RVDirect.com. I spoke with a rep and got a price on a Jayco Eagle. Their price was over $15,000 less than the price I was quoted on an identical RV by a local dealer. If I calculate travel expenses and shipping costs to Des Moines, I'm still saving over $10,000. Are these people legit? I'm a bit concerned about working with a dealer so far away, but the possibility of saving over $10,000 has me seriously considering the idea.
My brother-in-law bought a Jayco Senaca MH from them. He saved about 45 grand. In fact I flew to Des Moines with him to pick it up.
These are straight up folks. If I were buying new I wouldn't hesitate doing business with them and the $$$ saved, duh!
Of course he had his qualms about spending this kind of money, sight unseen, but he stepped out on faith and has not regretted.
The search function here works great. MANY POSTs here about RVDirect. The VAST majority of people who bought from them were/are very happy, me included.

When we purchase our next RV, probably a Jayco, it will be from RVDirect. I have not found a dealer that can come close to their prices for the same model, like optioned trailer.

Been reading about RVDirect on here for a long long time. They are legit but like any dealer, most get on here and say they are great, wonderful and make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside while a small handfull of others say they are horrible and would never buy from them again. By far, most of the posts I"ve read on here were positive about RVDirect.
The one thing you'll have to over come is paying for the rig. I've never bought one from them but I"ve read many posts on here that say you have to pay for the rig in full before you pick it up. You pay a deposit to order it, then after some lenght of time, you pay the rest. My bank wouldn't go for that because they want the papers on the rig in some timely manner so I'm not sure about the details of that but thats something you need to research more.

RV Direct is legit. I bought from them and it worked out great.
I would have been a repeat customer but they did not carry the brand we wanted so we used RVWholesalers for our next RV they are legit and very good as well.
Warranty work has NOT been a downside for either, RVW handled my first warranty issues by shipping me the parts I reported defective - VERY easy. On my RVDirect deal local dealer did my warranty work no questions asked.
There is the downside of paying in full before the PDI is scheduled and not being able to trade in anything (I sold my first RV privately and ended up carrying both of them for almost 6 weeks). However during the PDI (both cases) they did everything I asked and were nothing short of eager to completely please me. Also, I netted FAR more on the private sale than any dealer would offer in trade and the guy who bought my rig paid far less than any dealer would have charged - classic win-win.
The final irony. On the second RV I really tried to buy "local" which was 80 miles away. The "local" guy only knew how to deal with you face to face - in his office he was great... but trying to close the deal via e-mail and phone was impossible and I gave up. The internet guys KNOW how to give great pre-sales service via e-mail and phone which actually made them seem "closer" than the "local" guy.
And yes... you can save a LOT. Goes to show what kind of margins the local guys are getting from those who won't or can't deal on the internet.

We were going to use RV Direct - same thing everyone says here, they have a good reputation. We bought a Keystone Laredo, so our pickup would have been at the Keystone factory in Elkhart, Indiana.
We live near Louisville, Ky., so for us that was only a 280-mile trip one way. But then I went to a dealer that was closer, in Cincinnati, and they matched the RV Direct price once I showed it to them. Before that, they were still within about $500 of the price, which was thousands closer than any other dealer I'd talked to. Since it's easier to drive 100 miles to Cincinnati than 280 miles to northern Indiana, we went with the Cincy dealer. Cincinnati is still too far to go for regular service, but we don't anticipate having a problem with our local RV dealers for service. We did have an electrical problem early on with our rig, and the Cincinnati dealer was nice enough to send their own repairman out two days in a row, with him driving 200 miles roundtrip each day, to do the repairs. They didn't want us to have to take the rig all the way to Cincinnati when it was so new and technically shouldn't have had any problems yet.
The Cincy dealer is Holman Motors if you're interested, www.holmanrv.com
They're a real brick-and-mortar dealer and they sell across the country and deliver anywhere, too. Since they're a regular RV dealer with online wholesale pricing, you can get the usual terms for purchase, such as making a small deposit and financing the balance upon delivery. There are prices online, but if you email them they usually have much lower prices than those published.

I got a quote from RVDirect and then went to my local Jayco dealer.. When I told them I could drive to Des Moines and save over $3K, they began coming down... I ended up getting them down to within $600 of the RVDirect price.. Considering the cost of fuel, I am probably only paying the local dealer a couple hundred over what it would've cost me to go with RVDirect....
