The last of my 5 original Goodyear Maraton (date code 1104 made in New Zeland) tires blew this week on my 2005 Trail Cruiser. None of the Chinese replacements (one replaced when the trailer had less than 3000 miles on it) has had a problem.

"I am almost in denial because I can't believe that a reputable company like Sunnybrook would allow such chinese junk to transport their product!"

Another example of what a manufacturer has to do to SELL PRODUCT. As I've stated before, how many posts are asking if `it's a good deal' rather than is it a GOOD VALUE! Also why some makers are going out of business since they couldn't make RV's cheap enough to sell them!

There, I feel better...

jerendeb-CLIF,

It's not hearsay if it comes from someone who directly witnessed the event. Sadly, I've witnessed three of them fail on my TT

My trailer (5er) has Westlake Telluride tires which are scheduled for replacement this next week even though they lool like new. The Chinese made tires were imported under various names by a large Chinese tire mfg. There is a 450,000 tire recall the NHTSA is working out with the importer(s). It isn't just heresay about defects waiting to happen, the tire company failed to install a "gum strip" that keeps the tire from separating internally. The tires were mfg'd. from 2002 to Dec. '05 The NHTSA stated it doesn't matter about external conditions, the tires just fail due to driving with them. Just my 2cts. on the quality control of a product that risks both life and rig for a few extra bucks.

The sooner you go back the better. Hopefully the dealer is willing to listen, somehow, get in front of the manager and explain in detail, and negociate something to get them changed out. Maybe the dealer will take your old set-up and put it on another RV they have in stock, giving you some kind of credit, and then, either through ther dealer, or get cash and go to a tire dealer and get what you need for tires.

From what I gather, the issue is with the importer itself. Supposedly they only have the assets to cover approx. 10% of the recall w/o declaring bankruptcy. The NHTSA says that is unacceptable so nothing firm has been worked out. It seems the NHTSA and the importer are trying to get the Chinese tire company to stand up and take responsibility. The Chinese tire company of course denies any liability or fault with their product. Some of the states are implementing the recall and again I'm not sure of the logistics of that either. The advice I've read is to hold onto the Chinese tires, keep the receipt for the new replacement set and hope a settlement is reached. Both the NHTSA and the states are advising consumer's to remove the tires asap. Gotta love the cost cutting out sourcing.

I "had" Kenda Klevers on our Ameri-Camp. I phoned Kenda with my DOT numbers once I heard about the trouble. They assured me my tires were fine. I watched them like a hawk. Always ran 80 lbs. of air. Our unit is stored inside. In July we blew a passenger side rear tire. Damages were $1500. I'm in contact with Kenda now about covering replacement costs.

I thought my tires were good. I know how things get blown out of proportion on the forum. I had faith in what they told me. Well now I have four new tires at a cost of $550 and a $500 deductible.

One thing I noticed about 100 miles before the tire let go was it appeared to look over inflated. Upon checking it it was fine, just like the others. I think this was the beginning of tread seperation. Maybe someone who's a tire expert can offer advice.

The Kenda's had about 8,000 miles on them. If you're in Frisco, CO and someone offers you 3 good looking Kenda's I'd run the other way!

I am only going to speak of my experience, we bought a 07 Bristol Bay and had the same tires as the Op. Since Feb 08 we have done well over 5000 miles and have had no problems. I check my air I watch for curbs and road garbage, and I keep my speed down. I will change my tires when I take my next big trip but for now I will just keep a eye on things. I do not feel that you should run out a change them unless you are not comfortable with them, it is your choice.

I agree it's an individual choice on the Chinese tires. Once the NHTSA said the tires separate without warning, no unusual driving etc. It is due to a lack of material in the tire. I figured I was on a ticking time bomb. In my case, I don't want to sit on the side of a road somewhere with a destroyed tire least case or a damaged trailer, worst case. It's easier now while the rig is sitting and when I go on a trip it will be comforting to know I've done all I can to insure a safe trip. Again, this is my personal decision just as using Chinese tires is the right of others.
