The Honeycrisp apple was developed by the University of Minnesota. It is a Macoun and Honeygold cross (the Honeygold itself a cross between the Golden Delicious and Haralson), the new apple variety was introduced in 1991.

This is by far the best apple I have tasted. If you see them in your local grocer or farmer's market, give them a try. They are a little more expensive than other varietes, but well worth it!

we tried these apples last fall for the first time and WOW, truly the best apples we have ever eaten. The perfect blend of tart and sweet, very crisp and juicy, not mushy.

Have not seen any around here yet this fall, but hopefully we can find some soon.

Hope everyone will get a chance to try at least one.

I guess I'm in the minority, because when I tried them last fall, I found them to be almost too sweet for my preference, at least for eating out of the hand. When I combined them with another variety in a pie, though, they were wonderful.

I would have to agree 1000%. We start picking honeycrisp 3 yrs ago and found them to be great. I eat 2-4 apples a day this time of year. There is nothing better than going apple picking and picking one right off the tree and eating it right there. I have introduced 4-5 people i work with to these great apples and they love them too. I have 1 bushel of honeycrisp in the kitchen right now and i think i am going to go get one. They have become very popular over hte past few years. We have gone picking the last 2 weekend in a row and i think i am going to pick some more tomorrow as last year the orchard we pick at was all picked out in about 2 weekends. I picked 1 peck last sunday in the rain to ensure i would have plenty to get me through.
