I have recently started both of our aging Lhasas on Synovi G3, it is Glucosamine, MSM, Omega 3 supplement. Does anyone else use this brand? If so, please share your experiences.
Petey is 9 now and with his bowed front legs has started to show signs of slowing down. Like not wanting to walk as far on our evening walks. I've noticed that Loppy is stiff legging his right rear leg sometimes, as well as not hiking to urinate as often as he used to so I was concerned about him, too. Our vet recommended the Synovi G3 and they've been on it for a couple of days now. They seem to eat the soft chew well enough but I've noticed that Loppy will urp it back up unless I feed it with a meal....and then eat it again! Gross to me but hey, it's a dog thing.
It's hard to watch them slow as they age, since I have arthritis I know it's no fun. I am hopeful that this will work better than the human grade Glucosamine tablets & Fish oil caplets that I've given them in the past.
So please chime in if your dogs have taken this supplement, thanks!

Thanks Dr. Doug, I'll keep you posted on any improvements. I take your response to mean you supply another brand? If so, please feel free to PM me with the brand information if you don't want to post it.
The first four weeks of the supplement is a "load" to reach the therapeutic level, in other words I give them two a day and then go to one a day. This is according to our vet and the package instructions, given by weight.
From the research I've done this therapy shouldn't cause any adverse side effects. I'm certainly hoping to see improvements!
I've had most experience with Cosequin and their newer product dasoquin and glycoflex then 3V caps providing the omega3's. I've not seen a single product that had all. The biggest problem is lack of results. It's really hard to determine if the owners "gave up" too soon; expectations were too great; the product was inferior, or in fact didn't work. I have found a large majortiy of patients benefit from all or some of these ingredients.
Hi Cat..you remember our Sofie, she was a frisbee hound so when she was getting older she did pay a price for that.
We had her on CosequinDS, we started her out on four a day, two at each feeding for a few months then cut it back to one each feeding until the day she died.
By the end of the second week we started noticeing a little improvement and by the end of the first month a much greater improvment. That I think was 2003 and then in '04 she had to have the acl surgery and I kept her on it right through the whole ordeal and she recovered quite rapidly and her other leg never blew out as we were warned it would.
I'm not saying that had anything to do with it at all, but until she was diagnosed with the mouth cancer she had a fairly pain free four years which I was very thankful for.
Most people I know have had pretty good results with these types of supplements.
Good luck, I hope yours feel better soon.
Duncan (15years) was on Cosequin then Synovi G3 and now he's on Dasuquin; this seems to be working better for him than the other supplements. Now he is also getting Deramaxx. He has days where we need to help him get up on his feet. I suspect we're nearing the end of his time with us.

Well although I take glucosamine/and MSM myself, some recent blurbs. in the news seems to question the efficacy but I will continue to take them as they are cheap if only a Placebo but would question any difference between human grade and pet grade stuff, especially if the "synovi G3" is more money. I buy the cheapest Generic stuff at Sam's Club, which is about 1/10th the cost of Joint Juice, etc.

I put my 2 goldens on the Synovi G3 chews a while back. They worked pretty well for my male, but not at all for my female who has spondylosis. I put her back on NUPRO JOINT SUPPORT (silver label) and I started her on fish oil capsules, too, as suggested by Dr. Doug. She's doing great! I really liked the ease of the chews, as opposed to the Nupro powder, which I have to mix with her food and some water, but, hey, whatever works for your particular dog. I have my male on some chews, but I can't remember the brand.
Wanna-be RV-er - hoping to buy our first RV in 2008!
Thanks y'all, I appreciate your input. I've had our dogs on the Innova Super Senior formula and human grade Glucosamine for almost a year now. As well as Fish Oil added to their food every morning for the last few years. While that helped both of them it is now time to give them a more supportive regime of supplements. The price isn't really an issue as long as I see improvements.
Sher of course I remember Sofie, she was your heart dog. Thanks for sharing about her use of supplements. I think you're right having her on them helped her recovery process from the ACL.
Mark... I'm sorry, I understand all too well what you are saying about Duncan. It is so hard to see them struggle, isn't it?
Starfire, I'll have a look at the link you provided. One of my Lhasas, Loppy, is a VERY finicky eater so I am concerned about how well he will take any sort of supplement. I was concerned he wouldn't eat his food with the powder mixed in (Synovi makes a powder form as well). Thus far, he eats the chews very well.
One of the many reasons I enjoy this part of the forum so much, is sharing this kind of information. Thanks again!
Anyone else have experience with these kind of supplements?
