Received a letter today inviting me for a free quote on CSP offered by Good Sams. Has anyone ever used this coverage and in your opinion was it worth it? Just purchased a 01 Coachman 5ver and tossing the idea around.

I bought it when I purchased my current unit last year simply because I didn't know the unit and it was out of warranty. Seemed like relatively cheap insurance against something that might have or develop problems. Now that I know the unit, I will probably drop the CSP, which will probably insure that I will have some sort of problem to deal with shortly after that!
Our CSP has more than paid for itself. It has mostly paid for: New AC, New furnace control board (twice), refrigerator repairs, black tank repairs, and others that I cannot recall just now. We have been fulltiming in our rig for 10 years, so things get used a lot.
I would definately consider it.

I considered it as well, however then decided for over 600 bucks a year that I would instead put money into a separate savings account "for unexpected RV issues". It all boils down to wheather you can afford to shell out the necessary bucks for an unexpected repair. Having that money in the bank for an emergency repair is better than adding to Good Sam's Club's profits in my opinion. Plus they get on my nerves with their constant junk mail.
I decided to get the coverage after the factory warranty expired for peace of mind. My experience has been anything that will go wrong will at the least desirable time, so that is why I purchased the coverage. For me having all major components covered for three years at $600.00 is not a bad deal.
I have CSP on our truck have never needed it, but with costs of repairs, I think it is worthwhile insurance. I am told a new engine for my truck is $8000.00. Previous truck F350 had two transmissions at $2,700 a time and we didn't have it covered! I wish I had bought it for our fifthwheel, it has been a real money pit, two A/C's (about $800 each), one fridge ($1,500) one water heater($450), one new awning fabric ($250).
I thought of the idea of having a separate account in the bank for RV stuff, but unless you had a lot already saved before you started, putting away $100 a month would take you 14 months for the fridge and what if the fridge failed when you only had $100 in the bank?
We have been fulltiming since 1998 in our fifthwheel which we bought new. The truck was a used 2000 F550 which had been well loved by the previous owner. But as we had decided that the truck was the last one unless we win the Lotto, we have to keep it in good shape. We were lucky the truck had 36,000 miles when we bought it and we got for $36,000 a new one the same as ours is listed at over $90,000! I looked at a couple last year at the Tampa RV Show and definitely decided that our one had to stay!!

It's all a personal thing. If you have more money than nerve you pay the bucks, if you just can't live without "cradle-to-grave" you spend the money. As for me, I've been RV'ing since the early '70's, three motorhomes, one popup, one TT, and now a fiver. As I look back over the years and consider how much I spent on repairs and how much I would have spent on premiums for "insurance;" well I am way, way, way, way, way ahead. That includes two motorhome transmissions, three cracked motorhome headers, one refrigerator, one awning, two busted water heaters, and other miscellaneous repairs. I'm retired and do not have supplemental health insurance either--just another way for insurance companies to make money off of you. But like I said, it's personal--I would rather keep my bucks than pay insurance companies--I would consider $600 an outrageous amount to have to pay. That doesn't mean I don't believe in insurance, I have good health insurance, car, house, life, etc. But I don't buy into being "insurance poor." If something dramatic happened tomorrow--health, fiver, truck, etc.--I would still be way ahead of those of you with your "cradle-to-grave" policies. And I sleep very, very well at nights.

We've had CSP insurance going on 10 years and I'd like to say it has been great. The other day my wife & I figured what we'd paid in insurance premiums and what the the ins paid for and it was almost a wash out. Right now we're a little less than $100.00 pd for than what we pd for the insurance. Would we do it again, in a heart beat. The ins is good on a 5er until it is 16 yrs old. Just waiting for the Refrigerator or A/C to go out.

I carry CSP now and have for a while. I used them once to replace a fridge that went out. The cost of the fridge paid for the years I carried CSP. It is a good deal especially if the unit is older and MAY have something go bad. You only need to have them replace ONE high priced item and you will be happy you had it.
