I was just wondering if the hitch and brake controller I was given are any count. So I guess I'm asking for opinions. The hitch is a Husky 16k manual slide and the brake controller is a Reese Brakeman Digital. My biggest question is, are they worth keeping or should I try and sell them and get something different.

I have the reese brakeman controller and have had no issues from that. The biggest question about the hitch is it in good shape. As long as it is mechanically sound, it should pull as long as the weight limits are fine. Also, being a manuel with no slider, you do not want to use it on a short bed without a pin box extension or slider hitch. hope this helps!

The hitch is in very good shape. It was well taken care of. I have a short bed truck and that is what it came out of. It does slide I just have to do it manual. I am hoping that I understand this correctly then.

Had a Reese Brakeman. It is a timer type. IMO they are no where near as nice as Prodigy. I suggest you sell it, I got rid of mine.

The Reese always brakes the same amount on trailer, no matter if you want to just ease up to a stop, or a little girl runs in front of you and you stand on the TV brakes. The Prodigy matches your TV deceleration, so much smoother, and MUCH safer I think. Ask the little girl who still is playing in Tennessee, hopeful now always out of the road. When TV brakes go into ABS, Prodigy has TT tires just this side of sliding (and boy do they howl).

I have the same Husky towing a 14.5k Cardinal for 4 yrs and 40k miles with a f350 SB. Excellent hitch. Make sure the hitch pivots smoothly in all directions . If not disassemble and regrease.

For a minute, I thought thiswas SPAM.

"Send me $800.00 for shipping and I'll send you a free hitch and brake controller"

Then I realized you got it and wanted advice, DARN!

As indicated make sure the hitch is sound and no cracks/fractures in the welds.

I would dispose of the brake controller. It is a time delay/ramp up device and to me (I had one) they are unsafe. For less than $100.00 you can have a Prodigy.

This is my own assessment of brake controllers.

*LOL* 155 views and 7 replays. One of which I suspect didn't even read the OP's message, rather just sent a PM saying that he would be happy to take the stuff off the guys hands.

Everyone thought you were giving away a hitch and controller.

ANYHOW, like others said if the hitch is in good shape USE IT. as for the brake controller, it makes a VERY nice paper weight. Pick up a good proportional controller. Some swear by Prodigy but there are other good ones out there too.

I got a free reese 15k kwik slide, had it installed yesterday, dealer hit me 150 for rails, but hey it saved me a few hundred.

I did opt for the prodigy brake controller, have read very good things about it.
